Private-room Korean set dinner for meeting the in-laws: Modam Itaewon

In short

Modam Itaewon is a Korean restaurant on the first floor of the Mondrian Hotel in Yongsan, Seoul. Visiting on a weekend evening, the writer ordered the deodeok (bellflower root) grilled and charcoal tteokgalbi (short rib patty) set and the charcoal Beopseongpo dried yellow corvina set, working through a full course from appetizers to a perilla leaf sorbet. With several soundproof private rooms, it's a solid choice for meeting the in-laws or other important gatherings.

I had a clean, refined Korean meal in Itaewon on a weekend evening. If you're near Itaewon or Noksapyeong station looking for a quiet, upscale Korean restaurant, go check out Modam Itaewon! Here's my dinner set review ~

Modam Itaewon's location and hours

📌 Location Modam Itaewon is on the first floor of the Mondrian Hotel. There are signs right from the hotel lobby entrance, so it's easy to find. Being inside a hotel, it definitely had a clean, polished atmosphere 👍

📌 Hours Open daily 11:00–21:30, with a break time from 15:00–17:00. Modam Itaewon is open every day and works well for both lunch and dinner. Just check the time before you go since there's a break in between ~

Are there private rooms good for meeting the in-laws?

📌 Hall seating The interior has a nicely subdued design — not too bright, not too cold, just modern. Even at the hall tables, the seating was spacious and comfortable, with enough distance from other tables that dining never felt cramped.

📌 Private rooms This is exactly why Modam Itaewon works so well for meeting the in-laws — there are private rooms! There were quite a few of them, and conversation inside never leaked out at all. Since I went on a weekend evening, the rooms were pretty full of guests too.

Modam Itaewon's dinner menu and prices

📌 Dinner menu Modam is a place for a clean, well-composed Korean spread — great when you want a special atmosphere or want to treat someone. There are five dinner sets to choose from.

  • Boyang set ₩35,000
  • Tofu meatball steak set ₩42,000
  • Assorted seafood jang and gamtae butter rice set ₩42,000
  • Deodeok and charcoal tteokgalbi set ₩49,000
  • Charcoal Beopseongpo dried yellow corvina set ₩49,000

Aside from the main dish, everything else in the course is the same — several appetizer dishes come first, followed by the main dish served with side dishes.

📌 Special menu If it's for meeting the in-laws or an important business meeting, it's worth considering the more distinctive special-occasion set or the Korean beef striploin set instead of the regular dinner menu. For an important day with important people, there are pricier courses too, so take a look ~

Wine and traditional liquor

📌 Drinks Modam Itaewon has a drinks menu, and the wine selection in particular was really wide-ranging. Recommended wines are marked with a star sticker, so even if you don't know much about wine, you can order comfortably here.

As a proper Korean restaurant in Itaewon, of course they have traditional liquor, soju, and beer too 😋

From appetizers to dessert: the dinner set review

📌 Appetizers I ordered one tteokgalbi (short rib patty) set and one dried yellow corvina set, and the appetizers came shared between us! The rice cake looked as good as it tasted, plated really beautifully. Every dish was delicious — the salad with black sesame dressing was amazing, and the buckwheat noodles were incredibly nutty, probably from the domestic perilla seeds and perilla oil. The shiitake mushroom gangjeong (sweet crispy fritter) had a mala-cream feel to it, with a bit of a kick, so watch out~

Modam Itaewon also works well even with people you're not super close with yet, since the tables are large with plenty of space between you and the person across from you, and each dish comes with its own set of chopsticks, making it easy to share.

One more shoutout for the good stuff ~ 😋 My personal pick this day was, hmm... I have to give it to the amberjack ceviche ~

Tteokgalbi and grilled deodeok set

Along with the main components — rice, soup, and side dishes — the tteokgalbi and grilled deodeok come out grilled together. The tteokgalbi picks up the aroma of the deodeok, and the deodeok picks up a bit of the tteokgalbi flavor, so it's nice to savor them together.

Dried yellow corvina set

The dried yellow corvina comes out with green tea in an interesting touch — they said you can even pour it over rice and eat it that way 😉 Most of the bones had already been removed from the fish, so you just need to be a little careful as you eat.

Dessert: perilla leaf sorbet

A must at Modam, a Korean restaurant known for good food — the perilla leaf sorbet! You can really taste the perilla leaf, plus a hint of lemon, making it easy to eat like a sherbet. It was one of the best sherbets I've ever had.

A big plus of Modam Itaewon is that being inside the Mondrian Hotel makes it easy to find. It's also nice that dishes come out one by one as a course for meeting the in-laws or other important gatherings! If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant near Itaewon, go check out Modam Itaewon ~
