Sokcho market bakery: pepper japchae and abai croquettes to-go at Samsam Goroke
In short
Samsam Goroke is a handmade croquette bakery inside Sokcho Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, where croquettes can be packed to go. On a road-trip getaway to Sokcho, the writer picked a 6-piece set and tasted the Chinese-style pepper japchae, potato and abai croquettes at home. The generously filled croquettes and the individual packaging were the highlights.

A Sokcho trip with my boyfriend, part drive, part day-off treat! It seems like croquettes are having a moment in Sokcho these days!? Couldn't fall behind the trend, so we rushed over to grab some to go!
Finding Samsam Goroke inside Sokcho Jungang Market
Samsam Goroke (삼삼고로케) is inside Jungang Market, so it's super easy to get to! We used the public parking lot for our visit!

Here's the outside of Samsam Goroke on the 1st floor! The black sign says "premium handmade croquette spot," so it was easy to find! haha

The croquette flavors we picked for the 6-piece set
Here's Samsam Goroke's very reasonable price list! Buying a set makes it even cheaper!! And besides croquettes, they sell all kinds of alcohol too, like soju and makgeolli (rice wine)! haha I really do love a drink, sigh hahaha... Next year, then.... To try as many flavors as possible, we picked the 6-piece croquette set! haha
The croquettes were all laid out looking ready to eat! Looking like there's no way they could be bad, ooh la la~~

If you pick your menu ahead of time, ordering goes quickly! The lineup is the limited-edition Sokcho red crab croquette; the Sokcho abai croquette, filled with ojingeo sundae (squid stuffed with sundae filling), which is THE Sokcho thing; the Sokcho potato croquette, packed with Gangwon potatoes; the meat-packed jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) croquette, which I hear is the hot one; the Chinese-style pepper japchae (stir-fried pepper and pork) croquette; and the pollock roe cream croquette, so it's easy to order to your taste!

The croquette smell that followed us into the car
After a short wait, my order came out in a flash! The smell was seriously insane.... I put it in the car and got in, and the drool.... hahahaha I felt like Pavlov's dog.... hahahaha So the whole way home I struggled, fighting off the temptation seeping in every few minutes hahaha

Opening the individually packed set at home
The moment we got home, we opened up the Samsam Goroke set! Each one is individually packed and labeled, so there was no mixing them up! haha

Chinese-style pepper japchae croquette
First up, the Chinese-style pepper japchae croquette! You can't resist a croquette with meat in it, right!? Split it right down the middle and the filling was packed in tight!
That delicious smell wafting out!!!! Pepper japchae that's already tasty on its own, stuffed into a croquette? You can trust this one, haha. Above all, that generous filling made it really satisfying!

Sokcho potato croquette
Second, the Sokcho potato croquette! With "potato" I was picturing something like potato salad, but it's potato gratin!!!!!!
There's cheese in it too, so the richness is doubled!!!! Not overpowering, but with a deep cheesy flavor that adults and kids alike would love!

Sokcho abai croquette
Third, the Sokcho abai croquette! Just the thought of ojingeo sundae inside a croquette made it feel like a whole new flavor!!!!!
Personally, I found this one seriously delicious!!!! Maybe because I'd fallen for ojingeo sundae that day, haha. My mom and I polished it off together without a second thought!! haha
