A Gangneung Korean set meal restaurant I'd recommend: Saimdang Bueok. Great for a Gangneung food spot near Ojukheon.

How I found Saimdang Bueok while looking for a Gangneung hanjeongsik locals eat at
I love Gangneung so much I've lost count of how many times I've visited — I'm basically a Gangneung travel veteran at this point ★. Gangneung is famous for lots of delicious, well-known food, but after so many visits I've already tried all the famous stuff~~ so now my greedy little wish is to find those real, real local spots that Gangneung residents actually go to ^^... Chasing that selfish craving is how I found this hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) restaurant, Saimdang Bueok!!!!🍚✨
Three minutes from Ojukheon, with a free parking lot
🚙Saimdang Bueok has a large free parking lot so parking is super easy, and it's only 3 minutes from Ojukheon, which makes it the perfect spot to eat and then go sightseeing 〰️!
Let's head straight in after parking :)
The interior was very clean and the staff were super friendly. I'd made a reservation, and when I first arrived the place was packed! I managed to snap these photos in a quick lull between customers haha.
The Saimdang Set at 19,000 won per person, with Chodang sundubu as the soup
I ordered the Saimdang Set, which comes with steamed scallops, japchae, spicy pork and grilled fish. With the Saimdang Set you can choose either seaweed soup or Chodang sundubu (soft tofu)!! And Gangneung is basically the city of tofu, right?!??! So of course I picked the Chodang sundubu!!!⭐️

A table completely packed with side dishes >0< — just looking at it, I could already tell it was going to be soooo good...★
For under ₩20,000 per person, the side dish quality is really high!! 〰️✨ You get two kinds of fish plus a meat dish — at this price it's a totally goated value spot 👍🏻💗
Why the Saimdang Set beats the Ojukheon Set
There's also the Ojukheon Set, which is ₩5,000 cheaper than the Saimdang Set, but I'd still recommend the Saimdang Set — for just ₩5,000 more, the side dish quality jumps way, way up..!🫢👍🏻✨ With just that extra ₩5,000 you get everything from japchae to spicy pork to scallops, and honestly I can't pass that up 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
The fish and the spicy pork were bigger and more generous than I expected too — passed!!!!

Who eats here at weekday lunch: mostly Gangneung locals
Since it comes with both meat and fish, making it a filling meal, most of the customers were locals living in Gangneung, not tourists!! When I went on a weekday lunch, most of the guests were office workers on their lunch break or groups meeting up!!
Ultra-speedy fish-deboning man — the guy who debones your fish for you (whoa... calm down...) hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Put the fish on white rice and, well, need I say more. Fish that someone else deboned for you tastes the absolute best^^...
The spicy pork was also beyond words 🤤 the owner is a seasoning master. The pork sauce is insanely good — a real rice-summoning flavor
Finishing with Chodang sundubu
Everyone, the side dish tour still isn't over^^... ✨ There's still the sundubu left ✨
Clear sundubu (soft tofu) drizzled with soy sauce is a dish where you can really taste the tofu itself, but that also means it has nowhere to hide if the tofu isn't good, right? 🤔 I've been let down plenty of times by this dish before, but Saimdang Bueok's sundubu was nutty and so delicious, yum yum ➿💗💗
A Gangneung restaurant open all day with no break time
Haaa... and that wraps things up neatly...haaa. I'd heard this was a place locals in Gangneung frequent, so I went in with high expectations, and the food was delicious and the owner was kind, so I left in a great mood. Plus, with no break time, you can drop by whenever you like! haha If you're looking for a satisfying, delicious meal in Gangneung, I recommend Saimdang Bueok.
