What the Gwihanjokbal storefront looks like

You can spot this place from a mile away thanks to a huge inflatable sign! It reads "We'll treat you like royalty," and honestly, I felt pampered before even walking in — so reassuring haha! There was also a big sign advertising the takeout discount out front. 👍 The entrance is lined with fake grass that's bright green, giving off a fresh, tidy vibe that stands out from the rest of the alley. ✨ The wood-frame sign with warm lighting was completely my taste... the emotional appeal starts right at the door. 🫶

What really stole my attention was the display case out front! A glossy replica jokbal spread was recreated so realistically that my mouth was watering before I even walked in! The half-and-half jokbal and bossam visuals on the banner next to it were no joke either!
What is the interior and seating like at Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae?
The inside of Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae has a cozy Korean dining atmosphere with dark wood furniture and indirect lighting. Long black sofa seating runs along one wall, making it great for group dinners or gatherings.

Stepping inside, the space was way roomier and more comfortable than I expected! The dark wood furniture and soft indirect lighting gave the whole place a cozy, upscale Korean dining feel. 🪵
Along one wall there's a long stretch of plush black sofa seating that looked perfect for group dinners or gatherings! The tables were spaced out comfortably too, so chatting with friends over the meal felt relaxed and unhurried. 🥹
And I spotted a neon calligraphy decoration on the wall reading "the best jokbal restaurant in Korea"! It was cutely decorated with fake cherry blossoms and star balloons, so of course I had to snap a photo. 🌸
Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae menu and prices
Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae has a wide lineup from the basic jokbal to bossam, half-and-half jokbal, Uiseong garlic jokbal, and spicy charcoal-grilled jokbal. A big sign on the wall also advertised a 5,000 won discount for takeout.

On the wall was an eye-catching sign for the 5,000 won takeout discount! And the lineup — basic jokbal, bossam, half-and-half jokbal, Uiseong garlic jokbal, spicy charcoal-grilled jokbal — was seriously massive!

Flipping through the booklet menu, there was the visually stunning royal triple set, gwijokbaengi (paired with spicy whelk salad), and even a seasonal oyster bossam! With options like that laid out so nicely, I had a serious case of decision paralysis. 🫶

The side menu was also packed with perfect drinking-companion options — seafood sundubu, potato pancake, Jeonju-style meat pancake, makguksu, and flying fish roe rice balls!
Which side dishes come free with the jokbal?
Not long after we sat down, they brought out individual bowls of warm bean sprout soup! It came in a compact, deep black bowl with clear broth and plump bean sprouts. ✨ One sip and my mouth felt instantly refreshed, warming me up from the inside — you know that feeling? It wasn't overly seasoned or heavy, just clean and refreshing, the perfect palate cleanser before diving into the jokbal!
What comes with the medium Gwihanjokbal (41,000 won) spread?
The medium Gwihanjokbal set costs 41,000 won and arrives on a large wooden tray surrounded by three types of sauce, three kinds of kimchi, and fresh wrap vegetables. Ssamjang, a special barbecue sauce, and salted shrimp are each given their own dish so you can dip without elbows bumping.

This grand spread is basically the trademark of Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae, and seeing it in person, I could only gasp. 💖 Tada! The big wooden tray has a clearly marked spot in the center for the main jokbal, perfectly surrounded by side dishes and sauces. ✨
What I loved most was the sauce tray! Ssamjang, special barbecue sauce, and salted shrimp were neatly arranged in three separate dishes on either side, so each person could dip comfortably without reaching across each other. 👍 The sweet-salty sauces were even topped with a sprinkle of sesame seeds — the details were on point!

And the trio of kimchi that pairs perfectly with jokbal was incredible too! 🫶 There was chewy, sweet-and-spicy radish salad, crisp and refreshing white kimchi that cuts through the fat, and vividly colored fresh bossam kimchi — doesn't the visual alone look amazing?
Alongside that came thinly sliced pungent garlic slices perfect for wrapping, and a generous pile of chopped cheongyang chili peppers! 🧄
They also gave us crunchy cucumber and carrot sticks great for dipping in ssamjang, plus perky, still-fresh lettuce and perilla leaves — such a generous spread! 🥬 None of the side dishes felt the least bit dry, everything was neat and fresh, so my chopsticks were already busy before the jokbal even arrived!

Finally, the main jokbal landed in the center of the big wooden tray! It's a medium size, but doesn't the portion look massive? Sliced meat and collagen-rich skin sat next to the big bone in a fantastic ratio, with plenty of mini trotter pieces piled on too! 👍

There was a sprinkle of nutty black and white sesame seeds on top — and look at that glossy shine under the lighting! There wasn't a hint of any off smell, just a sweet, deep herbal aroma spreading through the air — I couldn't put my chopsticks down!
At first I dipped a piece into the salted shrimp to taste the meat's natural flavor — the salty umami cut right through the fattiness while the nuttiness burst in my mouth. 🥹
Dunking the chewy skin part into the sweet-salty special barbecue sauce was also amazing! 👍 It genuinely felt like the most satisfying jokbal I'd had in a while.

And need I even mention the combo with the kimchi trio I introduced earlier — total cheat combo! 🫶 Wrap a piece of meat in the bright red fresh bossam kimchi, and the sweet-spicy seasoning mixes with the savory juices for an endless bite. When things start to feel a little rich, wrap the jokbal in the crisp, cool white kimchi, or pile on the chewy radish salad and pungent garlic slices — it's absolutely unbeatable...
And of course, the crown jewel of jokbal has to be the wrap, right? Spread out a big fresh lettuce leaf, stack tender jokbal with the crunchy radish salad, pungent garlic slices, and a cheongyang chili dipped in ssamjang — then wrap it all up and take a big bite! 🥬 Behind the crisp crunch of the vegetables comes the chewy collagen and bursting juices — the combo was so perfect I had that unmistakable look of pure satisfaction the whole time!
Can't skip the mini trotter and bone pieces! The skin attached to the bone was unbelievably chewy and springy — I held it with my chopsticks and picked it clean. 🥹 With zero off odor and a jelly-like chewy texture, I finished it off completely without ever getting tired of it!
The garlic sauce you should always add to your jokbal
If you come here, this garlic sauce is the absolute cheat code you must order! It comes out in its own generous bowl, with a slightly frosty, moist texture and concentrated sweet-and-pungent umami flavor. ✨ I dunked a big piece of meat generously into the garlic sauce and popped it in — it practically melted in my mouth, and I gasped out loud! Not dry at all, the moist meat soaked up the sweet, pungent sauce perfectly — it was incredible.
Is the soy egg rice (4,000 won) worth ordering with jokbal?
The soy egg rice at Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae costs 4,000 won, comes covered in enough seaweed flakes to hide the rice, topped with tuna, a fried egg, and mayonnaise. Adding a piece of jokbal on top and eating it like sushi is an essential combo here.

This is the essential side dish at Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae! Let me give you an honest review of the soy egg rice, jokbal's soulmate. 💖 In a big bowl, seaweed flakes covered the rice so thickly you couldn't even see it! On top were moist tuna and a thick fried egg.

Then a generous wave of mayonnaise was drizzled on top without holding back — one look and I knew this couldn't possibly taste bad! 👍 A nutty aroma wafted up and my spoon went straight in.
I popped the yolk, mixed the tuna, seaweed flakes, and mayonnaise thoroughly into the rice — and out came a perfectly moist, glossy bowl of rice! 🫶

I took a big spoonful — the salty soy base plus the intense nuttiness of mayonnaise and tuna spread throughout my mouth. And here's the real tip: place a glossy piece of tender jokbal on top of the rice and eat it like sushi — it's absolutely unbeatable... 🥹 Behind the nutty, soft rice grains, the chewy jokbal texture and salty-sweet juices soaked right in, drawing out gasps of satisfaction. Even full, I couldn't stop my spoon — dangerously addictive!

Is Gwihanjokbal worth recommending as a jokbal spot in Yeonsinnae?
Usually with jokbal you get a little tired of it by the end, right? But here, from the meat to the chewy skin, there wasn't a hint of off odor — I couldn't put down even the last bone fragment! 🥹 Dipping into the pungent garlic sauce, pairing with the sweet-spicy bossam kimchi, and finishing with the nutty soy egg rice — I kept going nonstop and completely emptied my soul into this meal. 💖 Filling up on such delicious food really melted away the day's stress. ✨ If you're looking for a genuine jokbal spot near Yeonsinnae, Gwihanjokbal really won't disappoint!
