After eating out in east Jeju you naturally start thinking, "isn't there a pretty café nearby?" This time, while passing through Sehwa and Pyeongdae-ri, I searched for Jeju Sehwa restaurants and cafés and Sigan-eul Damda Gujwa caught my eye for looking a bit special. It had that quiet, unhurried Jeju feel plus a reflection garden good for photos, so it worked nicely as a stop after a meal if you're traveling around Sehwa Beach or Pyeongdae-ri.

Where is Sigan-eul Damda Gujwa, and is there parking?

Sigan-eul Damda Gujwa sits on Pyeongdae 7-gil in Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si. It's positioned between Sehwa and Pyeongdae, so it's easy to combine with a walk along either Sehwa Beach or Pyeongdae Beach. Rather than being on a busy road packed with tourist cafés, it felt tucked into the village, so the surroundings were fairly quiet too.

Parking is available right in front of the café. That said, it's not a huge lot, so I'd recommend arriving with a bit of buffer time when it's busy.

A water garden instead of an ocean view

The first thing that caught my eye at Sigan-eul Damda Gujwa was the reflection garden. There's a water garden set up in front of the café, so it's more fun to wander and take photos here than at a typical café where you just grab a coffee and leave. Jeju has no shortage of ocean-view cafés, but this one was a bit different in that you get to rest looking at a garden and water instead of the sea. On a nice day it's especially good for taking photos outside, so couples or anyone hoping to capture pretty shots during a Jeju trip would probably love this space.

Step inside and the mood shifts completely. In a white-toned space, purple wisteria decorations stretch across the entire ceiling, and it felt even more striking in person than in photos. There are lots of cute little props and plants throughout, so if you prefer a clean, minimal café this might not be your style, but if you love flowers or a garden-like, bright atmosphere it'll suit you well. Floor-to-ceiling windows let you see the reflection garden outside too, so on a hot or rainy day it was nice to sit inside and just look out at the garden.

This isn't just a coffee spot — it's more fun for enjoying drinks and desserts made with Jeju ingredients. The signature items include flower bingsu (shaved ice), nurungji cream red bean bingsu, and tangerine terrine cake, plus a matcha latte made with Jeju matcha.

Having menu items you can actually only find in Jeju, rather than the usual café standards, feels memorable from a traveler's point of view. Personally, on a Jeju trip I think it's nice to pick at least one dessert that's specific to the region instead of something you could get anywhere!

What worked and what didn't at Sigan-eul Damda Gujwa

What I liked was being able to slow down in a good-looking space without straying far from the Sehwa-Pyeongdae travel route. Thanks to the reflection garden and wisteria interior, there were plenty of spots for photos both inside and out. On the other hand, if you prefer quiet, unadorned minimal cafés, the ornate interior might not match your taste. Also, while there is dedicated parking, it's not a very large lot, so it's worth checking the parking situation ahead of time on weekends or busy tourist hours.
