Busan Korean BBQ with a giant grill: Daepae Maket Daeyeon
In short
Daepae Maket Busan Daeyeon Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Nam-gu, Busan, serving thin-sliced pork belly with grill-ready accompaniments. I ordered chestnut-fed thin-sliced pork belly, steamed egg, and seafood doenjang stew, and loved the huge grill and varied self bar. A filling choice for a leisurely dinner, but allow time for an evening wait.

If you’re looking for samgyeopsal (pork belly) or thin-sliced pork belly in Daeyeon-dong, Daepae Maket is definitely worth a visit! I went to Daepae Maket Busan Daeyeon Branch for dinner this time. Even on a Monday evening, it was packed enough to have a wait ◡̈

Daepae Maket near Daeyeon Station: location and parking
Daepae Maket Daeyeon Branch is on the first floor at 222 Suyeong-ro, Nam-gu, Busan. It is open 16:00–01:00 on weekdays and 11:30–01:00 on weekends, with last orders at 00:00.

Daepae Maket Busan Daeyeon Branch is near Exit 5 of Daeyeon Station! The restaurant is quite large, so it is easy to spot from a distance and not hard to find:)

They offer one hour of parking support with a meal, so it seemed convenient for anyone driving. Nearby options include Sin Parking Lot, Modeun Parking Lot, Gagahoho Parking Lot, and Ashure Parking Lot. Sin Parking Lot was the closest, so that’s where we parked ◡̈

Monday evening wait and the playroom
Once inside, it was much bigger than I expected. There were lots of tables, so it looked fine for groups too, though there will probably be a wait because it is so popular. I visited on a Monday evening and got in after waiting around 5–10 minutes 👋🏻

There was also a playroom on one side of the restaurant, and I saw lots of families visiting with children! The playroom was clean and neatly organized, with a range of game machines as well. It seemed like a nice place for kids to play without getting bored, so it would be great for family visits too ☺︎

Chestnut-fed thin-sliced pork belly and the self bar
We ordered chestnut-fed thin-sliced pork belly, steamed egg, and seafood doenjang stew that day ◡̈ They also had such a wide selection of meat, including makchang (grilled beef or pork intestines), gochujang pork belly, fresh pork belly, and beef brisket!

The self bar costs ₩2,000 per person, and there was far more variety than I expected. There were ssam vegetables (wrap greens), mushrooms, potatoes, bean sprouts, shredded scallions, marinated onions, and all kinds of things to eat with the meat. Such an unbelievably generous spread... 🥹

The chestnut-fed thin-sliced pork belly arrived first! The first order has to be at least five servings:) It is thin-sliced pork belly made from Duroc pork fed chestnuts. Since it is sliced so thinly, it cooks quickly on the grill and goes well with lots of different ingredients.

A giant grill for cooking lots of ingredients
And...!!! Just look at the size of that grill~ 🔥 The most impressive thing was definitely the grill size! It was seriously huge, with plenty of room even after putting on several slices of thin-sliced pork belly. It was perfect for grilling mushrooms, potatoes, and bean sprouts alongside it.

The nicely browned thin-sliced pork belly was nutty and clean-tasting, which I loved. I like mine cooked a little crisp, and because it was thinly sliced, I could grill and eat it quickly!

Wrapping the meat in greens with shredded scallions or marinated onions kept it from feeling greasy, so I could just keep eating! The bean sprouts and mushrooms we brought from the self bar were delicious grilled alongside it too ʕᵔᴥᵔʔ

Finishing with steamed egg and seafood doenjang stew
The steamed egg, which would have been a shame to skip with grilled meat, was soft and warm, making it perfect to eat between bites of pork! It was bigger than expected too, which made it even better > <

A Korean K-dessert... doenjang plus rice. Daepae Maket had several kinds of doenjang jjigae (soybean-paste stew), and we chose the seafood version:) The seafood doenjang had a slightly rich cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) feel, with a spicy yet clean flavor, and it was so delicious ㅠㅠ We were already incredibly full, so my friend and I ordered just one bowl of rice to share, but it still made for such a satisfying finish!

They were also running a receipt event. We could choose one of mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in broth), bibim naengmyeon, or a drink, so we ordered the mul naengmyeon to have with the meat haha! (Ah, so that’s why I felt like I was about to burst...)

Overall, the restaurant was spacious and the self bar had so many choices, making it a great spot for a generous meat feast! I especially loved being able to grill lots of ingredients together on the large grill.

Keep it in mind if you are looking for samgyeopsal or thin-sliced pork belly in Daeyeon-dong. Since there was a wait even on a Monday evening, though, I recommend allowing plenty of time if you visit at dinner:)
