Haeundae Chinese restaurant: double jjamppong rice for two, Bueokgan

I drank the night before and suddenly craved jjamppong, so I searched around and ended up at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch. There's a Haeundae branch and a Marine City branch, and since Marine City has the ocean view, I figured I'd get my hangover cure and enjoy the scenery at the same time.

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, and how does parking work?

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building in Marine City, Haeundae, and the dedicated parking lot supports up to 1 hour 30 minutes free. Make sure to get your stamp from the restaurant after parking.

Marine City in Haeundae must have a lot of good restaurants, because even from 11am there were already lots of cars and other restaurants were packed with customers too.

There was a parking lot, and it was bigger than I expected, but with so many cars around Marine City, by the time we left it was completely full. Since 1.5 hours is supported, park there and be sure to get your stamp!

Inside Bueokgan Chinese: the ocean-view window seats in Marine City

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is on the 2nd floor but has an elevator, so it's easy to visit with elderly family members, and the floor-to-ceiling window view was visible even before we walked in. Kids' chairs and aprons are set up in several spots.

The wide-open window view was already stunning before we even stepped inside.

There's a restroom outside, and before entering there's a sink like this, which is perfect for just washing your hands.

Once inside, the red color scheme that's iconic to Chinese restaurants is placed just right, so you immediately feel like, ah, this is a Chinese restaurant.

Aprons hang around in several places, and there are multiple kids' chairs too.

It's especially great for group visits, so it's a good place to stop by when you're already out at Dongbaekseom or Haeundae.

There were also some mini-sized liquor bottles on display.

It was nice that the rooms all had air conditioning.

Even though it was hot, I wanted to eat while looking at the view, so we sat by the window. It seemed like the kind of seat that would fill up first in winter. I went right at opening and got the window seat immediately.

Maybe because the weather was nice, but the view was seriously incredible, right?

During the day it's definitely still hot, so even with the air conditioning, the window seat got a little warm~ But the view is so pretty!

What side dishes come with the meal?

Jjachai (pickled radish, Chinese-style) and danmuji (pickled radish) are provided, and there's no self-serve bar, so just ask for a refill if you finish them.

Sooran ganjajang with a poached egg, 10,000 won

The sooran ganjajang at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is ₩10,000, and it's the signature menu item — pork belly and onion quickly stir-fried over high heat, topped with a soft poached egg (sooran).

Before the tangsuyuk came out, the jajang and jjamppong arrived first.

There's something about the ganjajang and pork belly combo that I personally like better than just having beef in it.

A friend who'd been here before said the ganjajang was quite sweet, but when I went, the seasoning was just right, so it was fine for me. My companion (Jjangpuri) regretted not ordering this as a double portion instead, since Jjangpuri likes noodles more than rice.

The poached egg yolk sets more than you'd think if you wait, so it gets a bit more cooked — mix it right when it arrives! There's julienned cucumber on top, and plenty of onion and meat.

The noodles were nice and chewy, and since the meat was pork belly, it went really well with the jajang sauce.

The sauce wasn't thick, but rather thin and loose, more like a jajang that mixes in easily.

Beef brisket jjamppongbap, double portion, 14,000 won: the hangover cure

The beef brisket jjamppongbap, double portion, is ₩14,000 — a jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) where the flavor of thinly sliced beef brisket melts into the broth. If a place has a beef jjamppong, I always order it, but this day it was even more urgent because of the hangover.

Maybe because we ordered the double portion, they gave us a ton of broth for the jjamppong. The bowl was almost full, so it cured my hangover properly.

I usually like cabbage fully cooked down, but here it still had a crunchy texture. The smoky wok flavor wasn't too strong, but the seasoning was just right.

There was so much meat in it that even after eating meat continuously, there was still more left at the end~

Some places put glass noodles in when you order jjamppongbap, but Bueokgan Marine City has the difference of serving rice separately instead of noodles in the jjamppong. I don't really eat glass noodles anyway, so this was actually a plus for me~

Black vinegar tenderloin tangsuyuk, small, 28,000 won, sauce on the side

The small black vinegar tenderloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) is ₩28,000 — Bueokgan's signature tangsuyuk, made with a sauce using Chinese black vinegar for a deeper, richer flavor. The sauce isn't thin at all but has a nice viscosity, so it worked well even for my dip-sauce-loving companion Hamzzim, who ate it happily.

There were also parts without sauce on them, so I got to enjoy it properly by dipping.

Even though it's tenderloin, it was soft and crispy, so we finished it all even though we were already full.

Eating like this for two will leave you stuffed to bursting.

There are so many good restaurants in Marine City, Haeundae, but if you're craving Chinese food, Bueokgan might be worth considering as an option~
