Masan Korean restaurant packed at 1:30pm: Yun Sikdang set meal

In short

Yun Sikdang is a single-menu Korean restaurant near the Bukmasan furniture street in Masan, Changwon, serving only a grilled bulgogi (seokswoe bulgogi) set meal with rice. Even at 1:30pm the restaurant was full, and the set for two arrived with grilled fish, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), kimchi pancake, marinated abalone and seasoned squid, plus one extra kimchi pancake for 5,000 won. The seasoning at Yun Sikdang is mild and the spread generous enough that a full bowl of rice went down easily even with an upset stomach from the day before.

Masan lunch spot "Yun Sikdang" near the Bukmasan furniture street — great value and a generous grilled bulgogi set meal ❤️

A rare day off to hang out with my sibling ♬ The day before, I ate way~~~~ too much at a buffet and got an upset stomach, but you can cure that with more food, right, haha. So we looked for a Korean restaurant with rice, doenjang jjigae, and meat all together, and ended up at Masan lunch spot Yun Sikdang.

Where is Yun Sikdang, and where do you park?

Yun Sikdang is near the Bukmasan furniture street, but unfortunately there's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to park on the street in front or use the paid public lot.

You can park on the street in front from 11:30am to 2pm; outside those hours, use the 'Bukmasan Furniture Street Public Parking Lot' :) ※ 1 hour of parking supported per table ※

Full house at 1:30pm — how the waitlist works at Yun Sikdang

After a rare morning of sleeping in, we showed up late for lunch at 1:30pm, and Yun Sikdang was already completely full 👍👍

Apparently it's popular enough that there's a wait at peak lunch and dinner hours regardless of weekday or weekend, so if you hate waiting, try visiting at an odd hour like we did, haha.

If there's a wait, you write your name and party size on the waitlist and wait on site. If you're not there when your turn comes up, you get bumped to the next spot, so keep that in mind :) ※ No number tickets ❌️ ※

Yun Sikdang menu: one grilled bulgogi set meal, nothing else

Masan lunch spot Yun Sikdang only has one menu, the 'grilled bulgogi set,' so as soon as you sit down, just tell them your party size and you're set to order.

Ordering the grilled bulgogi set gets you not just the bulgogi but also grilled fish, doenjang jjigae, kimchi pancake, seasoned crab, and marinated abalone as standard, so it's best to just order the set first.

Standard spread for two servings of the grilled bulgogi set

I really wanted to eat a lot of kimchi pancake, but from what I read in reviews, the side dishes alone come out in huge variety. So we decided to try everything first and add on later, and just ordered two servings of the grilled bulgogi set, haha. ※ Grilled bulgogi set = includes a bowl of rice ※

Tray of Yun Sikdang's 9 side dishes

Nine side dishes plus seasoned squid and marinated abalone

The side dishes seem to rotate sometimes, but when I visited, most were crowd-pleasers like steamed egg, mung bean sprouts, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), stir-fried anchovies, and macaroni salad. Just the 9 dishes on the tray were enough to polish off a whole bowl of rice!

And there's chewy seasoned squid packed full of squid,

plus marinated abalone comes standard at Yun Sikdang!

So while we were happily agonizing over what to eat first, haha, the main dishes arrived — the grilled bulgogi, grilled fish, kimchi pancake, and doenjang jjigae.

How the grilled bulgogi tastes: smoky flavour, lean-to-fat ratio

The moment the grilled bulgogi hit the table, that smoky grilled aroma came wafting up, and I dug in with high expectations — and it lived up to them 👍👍

The ratio of lean meat to fat was just right, so it wasn't tough at all — it melted in my mouth.

It's delicious eaten with rice,

A spoonful of grilled bulgogi with rice

and just as good wrapped in lettuce, so if I'd been feeling healthy I probably would've ordered another bowl of rice. (Even with an upset stomach, I still finished a whole bowl, haha.)

Grilled mackerel and doenjang jjigae with blue crab

Maybe because the grilled mackerel is fried in oil, but it was crispy outside and moist inside, and it was just as good as the grilled bulgogi. The seasoning is on the milder side so people of all ages can enjoy it, so I'd recommend eating the mackerel together with the side dishes :)

Doenjang jjigae with clams and blue crab

Eating the grilled bulgogi and grilled fish can leave you feeling a bit stuck in the throat, and that's when a spoonful of doenjang jjigae is pure perfection 👍👍

The doenjang jjigae had vegetables like tofu, zucchini, and radish, but also clams and blue crab, making it so refreshing that it cut right through any greasiness.

A plate of the extra-ordered kimchi pancake

Thanks to that, by the time we got to the kimchi pancake, my stomach felt completely reset, like I hadn't eaten anything yet, haha, and it was so good. So we ended up ordering a whole extra plate.
