Yun Sikdang, a Bukseong-ro set-meal restaurant for lunch in Masan

Yun Sikdang is a set-meal Korean restaurant on Bukseong-ro in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, Gyeongnam. While looking for somewhere to eat lunch in Masan, I went to Yun Sikdang for a proper, well-put-together Korean set meal.

I usually like meals with lots of varied side dishes, so I went looking for a Masan lunch spot and ended up here. Since it's a Masan set-meal specialist known for a table packed full of food, I was curious what would come out.

As the dishes were laid out one by one, there were more banchan than I expected — grilled bulgogi, grilled fish, even doenjang stew — so the table felt quite generous.

Inside Yun Sikdang: atmosphere and seating

Yun Sikdang's dining room is fairly spacious, with seating for larger groups, so it looked suitable for group meals too.

There were a lot of elderly diners when I visited at lunchtime, giving it the feel of a restaurant that's been loved in the neighborhood for a long time — I felt like I'd found a good spot.

Masan eatery Yun Sikdang has a single-menu grilled bulgogi set, but you can also order grilled bulgogi, grilled fish, kimchi pancake, and more separately as extras.

What banchan comes with the set meal?

I slowly looked over the basic side dishes first — mung bean sprouts, stir-fried eggplant, steamed egg, stir-fried anchovies, young radish kimchi — and then the more elaborate ones: seasoned crab, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), braised abalone.

Since each banchan came in small portions, it was fun picking through them with warm rice, and eating a spread of different side dishes gave it a comforting, home-cooked feel.

On top of that, there was golden-grilled fish, a savory pancake, and a hearty doenjang stew, so I didn't need to order anything extra to feel full. It was close to the generous spread you'd hope for when looking for a good Masan set-meal restaurant.

Grilled bulgogi with a light smoky flavor

Of all the main dishes in this meal, the grilled bulgogi was by far the most memorable and the tastiest.

Yun Sikdang's grilled bulgogi cooked over a wire grill

Maybe because it's grilled over a wire grill, every bite had a subtle smoky flavor. The well-marinated bulgogi combined with that pleasant smokiness tasted great even eaten plain.

It also worked well wrapped in fresh lettuce with a big piece of bulgogi, some garlic, and a bit of banchan on top as a lettuce wrap.

With so many dishes on the table, the smoky grilled bulgogi was personally my favorite.

Besides the grilled bulgogi, there was also golden-grilled fish and a pancake.

It was grilled mackerel — the clean, mild flesh was easy to flake off and eat over rice, and the kimchi pancake, eaten warm right away, was crispy and savory.

The bubbling doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) had crab and clams in it, giving the broth a clean, refreshing taste that paired well with rice. Being able to eat grilled bulgogi, grilled fish, pancake, and a variety of banchan together made this a properly generous, filling Masan set meal.

Is Yun Sikdang worth it for lunch in Masan?

Yun Sikdang serves up neat basic banchan alongside grilled bulgogi, grilled fish, pancake, and doenjang stew all on one table, so it should suit anyone who likes Korean food when looking for a good Masan lunch spot.

The smoky grilled bulgogi stood out, and the variety of banchan made it easy to eat a bit of everything with rice. If you're looking for a hearty lunch spot or a Masan set-meal restaurant with plenty of good side dishes, Yun Sikdang is worth checking out.
