Yeonsan-dong noodle restaurant: blended-rice octopus bibimbap

I was looking for somewhere to eat lunch in Yeonsan-dong and ended up at this Yeonsan-dong favorite, Sinseon Myeonga. I thought it was just a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) place, but they actually have everything from bossam (boiled pork wrap) to bibimbap to pork cutlet, so it seemed like a great pick when you're hunting for a proper rice meal in Yeonsan-dong! Everything I tried that day was good, but I especially fell for the kalguksu and the octopus bibimbap. I thought I should come back with the kids next time. Let me show you the full review below 🩷

Where is Sinseon Myeonga, and is there parking?

Sinseon Myeonga is located at 586-1 Yeonsan-dong, Yeonje-gu, Busan, and is open daily from 09:30 to 22:30, with a break time from 15:00 to 16:00. Parking is available.

Sinseon Myeonga sits in Yeonsan-dong. I came by car, and there was a parking lot set up behind the building, so parking was easy.

Inside Sinseon Myeonga

Walking in, the place was bigger than I expected! The tables had decent spacing and the overall vibe was clean, so it looked good for solo dining as well as lunch or a family outing.

Looking at the menu, there's more than just kalguksu — rice dishes, bossam, pork cutlet, and sujebi (hand-torn noodle soup) too, so I could see why so many people come here as their go-to Yeonsan-dong lunch spot. Delivery orders kept coming in while I was there. It seems like a great option for delivery if you live nearby!

<Swipe to see more> Sinseon Myeonga's signature is its handmade fresh noodles, and there's a wide range of noodle dishes: anchovy kalguksu, cold kalguksu, bibim kalguksu, perilla oil kalguksu, bean kalguksu, and hand-torn sujebi. On top of that there's bossam, bibimbap options, and even pork cutlet, so there's plenty to choose from.

And apparently Sinseon Myeonga cooks its rice with a blend of suhyangmi and Icheon Imgeumnim rice. I love suhyangmi myself, so I was surprised — a restaurant using this pricey rice?! 👀 They seemed genuinely serious about their food 🥹👍🏻

The free sundae taster that arrives first

While waiting for our food, a complimentary sundae (Korean blood sausage) came out first, like an appetizer! I don't usually like sundae so I thought I'd just try a bite, but wow — it was savory and clean-tasting with zero gamey smell, and so chewy that it was way better than I expected 🫢 Even I, who rarely eats sundae, enjoyed it!

What we ordered at Sinseon Myeonga

That day we ordered a small bossam (for two), anchovy kalguksu, octopus bibimbap, and a cola.

Anchovy kalguksu

This kalguksu was really good! The broth alone was exactly my taste. It's good without the seasoning, and good with it too. Since it's homemade fresh noodles, the texture was springy yet soft. The broth was refreshing anchovy stock with sesame seeds mixed in, giving it a proper nutty flavor. Top of the kalguksu I've had lately. I got why they make such a point of emphasizing homemade noodles.

Octopus bibimbap

The unexpected top pick of the day was the octopus bibimbap! Honestly, with such a big menu I didn't have high expectations, but this was genuinely delicious?!!!!

The stir-fried octopus is fairly spicy, but it has that addictive quality where you keep going back for more. I mixed it all into the rice, and with the bean sprouts and all the vegetables added, it was so good. Completely fell for it. I want to eat it again!

Small bossam for two

Even though we ordered the small bossam, the portion was pretty generous! Between that, the kalguksu, and the octopus bibimbap, we were about to burst. Wrapping the pork with kimchi, dried radish strips, and peppers made for a really filling meal. It came with both ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) and a garlic sauce, so you could eat it however you liked!

Sikhye and yakgwa to finish

Sinseon Myeonga even takes care of dessert. They had sikhye (sweet rice drink) and yakgwa (honey cookie) set out. We were already so full we just grabbed one sikhye to take with us! Little touches like this made for a happy meal.

Is Sinseon Myeonga worth it for a Yeonsan-dong lunch?

I came in thinking of this as just a Yeonsan-dong kalguksu place, but I left having enjoyed the bossam and octopus bibimbap just as much. I especially fell for the kalguksu and the octopus bibimbap. Since they also have pork cutlet on the menu, it seems like a good spot to come with kids too, so I'm planning to bring mine next time. Next time I want to try the sujebi too! It felt like a quiet little discovery, so I'm adding one more hidden Yeonsan-dong gem to my own private list.
