Outdoor patio Korean BBQ in Busan: grilled aged kimchi at Donnamu Jip
In short
Donnamu Jip is a Jirisan pork belly restaurant in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, a 2-minute walk from Kyungsung University·Pukyong National University Station. A plate of Jirisan pork belly costs 37,000 won, and we ate it at an outdoor patio table with specialty rice (7,500 won) and country doenjang stew (6,000 won), though the aged kimchi grilled in the pork fat was the real highlight. With food like a country grandmother's home cooking and open-air seats, Donnamu Jip is a great pick on a fine evening.

Today I went back to my go-to pork belly spot near Kyungsung University, Donnamu Jip (돈나무집). It really felt like eating at my grandma's house in the countryside. And in weather like this, it's also perfect as an outdoor grill spot.

Eating pork belly with the breeze blowing through... that's heaven right there.
Donnamu Jip hours, location and how to get there
Donnamu Jip is on Yongso-ro 7beon-gil in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, about a 2-minute walk from Kyungsung University·Pukyong National University Station. It's open daily 17:00–23:00, closed Sundays, last order is 22:30, and there's no parking support.
Outside Donnamu Jip: the outdoor patio seats

They use Jiri Mountain pork, and even the rice and kimchi are domestically sourced!!
Inside Donnamu Jip

You sit at round tin-can tables, everyone drinking soju together. The vibe is soju-ready from the moment they open.

I sat right in the spot with that outdoor-grill feel. This seat totally feels like grilling meat outside, and it's perfect in weather like this. There's even an aging fridge.
Donnamu Jip menu and what we ordered
Donnamu Jip's main menu is just one thing: Jiri Mountain pork belly. I ordered a plate of Jiri Mountain pork belly (37,000 won), country doenjang stew (fermented soybean paste stew, 6,000 won), and specialty rice (gondre greens + shiitake, 7,500 won).

Eating this with two people, you can get stuffed full.
Side dishes and wrap vegetables at Donnamu Jip
First, the side dishes get laid out.

One reason I keep coming back to Donnamu Jip: the kimchi here is seriously, seriously good. If you like deeply fermented aged kimchi, you've got to try this one... Grill it and put it on top of the pork belly and it's mind-blowingly, nose-blockingly good.

The wrap vegetables. They give you banga (a fragrant wild herb), which I really love. Banga pairs so well with Jiri Mountain pork. The grillable vegetable assortment includes garlic scapes, sweet potato, and shiitake mushrooms. Scallion salad comes standard too.

Grilling the Jirisan pork belly and the best wrap combos
A plate of Jiri Mountain pork. It looks chewy just from the look of it. They grill it up sizzling for you.

A table full of food to enjoy — so happy. If you put the vegetables under the meat while grilling, they cook in the pork fat, and it makes everything taste two, three, four times better.

The first bite goes in salt. Since it's Jiri Mountain pork, the fat has real presence, and with the skin still on, it's got a nice chew.

There are so many ways to eat it. Personally, I loved grilling garlic and wrapping it with makjang (spicy fermented soybean paste) in a banga leaf.

First time trying a sweet potato wrap — grilling the sweet potato until crispy makes it crunchy and sweet, which goes great with the meat.

And of course, the wrap you can't skip.

The highlight at Donnamu Jip: aged kimchi grilled in pork fat
And now, the kimchi I mentioned at the start. This kimchi is genuinely the restaurant's identity, that's how good it is — and grilled, it's incredible.

Watching the kimchi grill in the pork belly fat, my mouth just starts watering automatically.

This is really something else. How can you beat the combo of moderately fatty pork belly and deeply fermented grilled kimchi?

It was so good I lost myself and just inhaled it...

Gondre specialty rice and banga-leaf doenjang stew
The gondre rice. They cook it fresh the moment you order, so it arrives piping hot and at its absolute best. They even pour the perilla oil right at the table for you. Truly touching.

I wrapped it in the roasted seaweed that came with it, topped with the seasoned sauce, and ate it up happily. The rice is sweet and the perilla oil smells so nutty. Ah, delicious.

For dessert I ordered the banga doenjang stew (fermented soybean paste stew). Ah, please make sure to order the version with banga in it. That sweet banga aroma is genuinely wonderful. It comes with two big chunks of tofu.
The moderately salty doenjang paired with the sweet banga aroma creates great synergy. Especially with the gondre rice!! A dream pairing. This is exactly the kind of dish that's a staple at grandma's table. Truly the best.
They even brought out yakult for dessert. What more could you want? Overall satisfaction was extremely high.

Is Donnamu Jip worth a visit? Final verdict
On the way out, they even have Febreze ready by the door. The meat quality, the concept, the direction, the menu lineup — everything about Donnamu Jip was spot on, no gaps. The kimchi you grill alongside the meat is seriously delicious, and from the interior to the food, it felt like visiting grandma's house, which made me very happy. In weather like this, it's also a perfect spot for outdoor grill seating. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an outdoor grill pork belly restaurant near Kyungsung University, or a pork belly spot in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan.
