A kodari restaurant near Icheon National Cemetery: Seonghone Wang Kodari Dongtaetang

Today I visited Seonghone Wang Kodari Dongtaetang, a spot people rave about near Icheon National Cemetery!! We went as a family on a weekend evening and ordered one sireogi kodari (dried pollock with dried radish greens), and it came out with daegu jiri (cod clear soup) too, so we left really, really full haha.

Every single menu item satisfied us — on the way out we kept saying how well we'd eaten.

If you're heading to or from Icheon National Cemetery, this place is really worth a stop, and it's somewhere I'd want to revisit the next time I crave kodari. Let's get into it!!

How to find Seonghone: is the sign easy to spot past Icheon National Cemetery?

Heading toward Icheon National Cemetery, the big sign caught my eye from far away. It said 'Wang Kodari · Dongtaetang' in large letters, so I found it without getting lost. Being a weekend evening, the front of the restaurant was already bustling.

A local favorite in Seolseong-myeon with every table full on weekend evenings

Restaurant interior packed with weekend evening customers

Inside, every table was full — must have been the weekend evening crowd.

Lots of local elders and quite a few families too. We didn't wait long, but while being seated I scanned the menu board on the wall.

Seonghone's ingredient rules: stevia, no Japanese seafood, domestic fish

Wall notice about ingredient principles such as using stevia

A notice posted by our table said they use stevia instead of sugar, and never use butter or margarine. No Japanese seafood either — only domestic fresh seafood, domestic kimchi, and domestic sea salt. That gave our family, eating with a kid, extra peace of mind.

Notice stating a Korean-Japanese cuisine chef prepares the food

There was also a note that a chef specializing in Korean and Japanese cuisine cooks everything personally, which somehow made it feel even more careful and considered.

What does the sireogi kodari set cost, and does daegu jiritang come with it?

Menu board listing the sireogi kodari price

On the menu board, the sireogi kodari large set (serves 4) was ₩65,000. Ordering it comes with daegu jiritang (cod clear soup) on the side too, which was genuinely great haha. Cheese steamed egg was ₩8,000, fish cutlet was ₩11,000, and fried rice could be added for ₩3,000.

There were also menus like flower octopus kodari braise and abalone seafood kodari braise — I'd love to try those next time.

The side dishes that arrive before the kodari

Side dish spread with bean sprouts, seaweed, and braised fish cake

As soon as we sat down, side dishes started filling the table one by one — bean sprouts, seaweed, braised fish cake, and kimchi. A salad came out too, and the table filled up fast haha.

Just tasting the side dishes already told us this was a good restaurant.

How the sireogi kodari tastes at Seonghone

Generous sireogi kodari on the grill plate

The moment the sireogi kodari hit the grill plate, my first thought was how generous the portion was. Sesame seeds sprinkled over a spicy-sweet sauce soaked deep into the kodari flesh, and it pulled apart softly with every bite of the chopsticks.

The spice level was just right — sharp but not overwhelming, with strong savory depth, which suited both my wife's and my taste perfectly.

Radish and dried radish greens in the kodari braise

The radish and dried radish greens cooked in alongside also soaked up the sauce well, so good with rice that we kept reaching for more. A notice on the wall said it tastes even better wrapped like a lettuce wrap — a piece of kodari, bean sprouts, and sauce all on a sheet of seaweed — so we tried it too, and wrapping it with rice made it so much better. A total revelation haha.

Daegu jiritang: the clean, light finish to the meal

Daegu jiritang with tofu and minari

The daegu jiritang that came with the sireogi kodari had a clear broth loaded with tofu, bean sprouts, and minari (water celery).

After eating the spicy kodari, one spoonful of this and everything felt instantly refreshed.

Cheese steamed egg: the surprise dish of the table

The cheese steamed egg came out puffed up beautifully full in the pot, and the whole family gasped the moment it arrived lol. Scooping in with a spoon, the inside was fluffy and soft all the way through.

There was a faint hint of cheese giving it a salty, savory flavor, and our kid was the first to grab a spoon and dive in.

Fish cutlet, the dish to order when you bring a child

The fish cutlet's batter was crispy outside and moist inside.

Cross-section of the crispy fish cutlet

Dipped in tartar sauce, there wasn't a hint of fishy smell — just clean flavor — so even our kid, who usually doesn't eat fish, finished it in no time.

Finishing the kodari sauce with fried rice, 3,000 won

Fried rice cooked in kodari sauce

At the end we fried rice right in the leftover kodari sauce and scraped the plate clean. Turns out this is actually Seonghone's recommended way to finish the meal, which somehow made it taste even better.

Grill plate nearly emptied of fried rice

With the nutty sesame oil aroma and the spicy sauce soaked in, it disappeared in no time lol.
