Today I want to introduce Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch, where the donkatsu (pork cutlet) was really delicious.

I had somewhere to be near Gangwon National University, so I ended up grabbing dinner there. Walking around the back gate, Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch caught my eye. I'd heard it was a well-known donkatsu spot, so I went in half excited, half curious.

What the restaurant is like at 6pm on a weekday

I arrived around 6pm and already about half the tables were filled with customers. Even though it was a weekday, people kept coming in after we sat down.

On top of that, delivery orders kept coming in nonstop, so it clearly seemed popular. Being so close to Gangwon National University's back gate, most of the customers were students. The staff stayed kind even while busy, so waiting never felt like a burden.

Open cooking counter and the sink inside the restaurant

The interior of Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch has a white tone mixed with wood accents, giving it a clean, comfortable feel — exactly the kind of interior I personally like. The layout let you see the cooking area clearly, and the counter was bigger than I expected, so watching the food come together felt natural. When the kitchen is visible like this, it puts my mind at ease seeing how the food is made.

Sink and restroom entrance set up inside the restaurant

There was a separate sink inside the restaurant, which was great for washing hands before eating. The restroom was just to the right of the sink, done in white tile and mint accents, and it was spotless. The touch of having mouthwash and a diffuser ready was a nice detail.

The three katsu sets we ordered

That day we ordered three things and shared: the triple mixed katsu set, the cheese-loaded katsu set, and the hire katsu (fillet cutlet) set. All the menus were priced in the ₩10,000s, so it was easy to enjoy without worry. All three came with rice, soup, and salad as standard, which made the meal really filling.

The cheese-loaded katsu set lived up to its name — the cheese piled on top caught your eye right away. With the first bite, the cheese stretched and stretched, which made eating it a lot of fun.

Triple mixed katsu set

The triple mixed katsu set comes with loin katsu, hire katsu, and fried shrimp all on one plate. It's perfect for anyone who can't decide, since you get to enjoy several flavors at once.

Curry sauce, stir-fried kimchi, wasabi and salt

Jeongseong Katsu's sauce had more depth and savoriness than other sauces I've tried. The kimchi wasn't just plain kimchi either — it was stir-fried, which I really liked. Wasabi and salt came out too, which was unusual, and dipping the katsu in them gave yet another flavor.

Rice mixed with curry sauce

I don't usually eat much rice, but the curry sauce that came with it was so good mixed into the rice.

Darami J's verdict on Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch

In summer they have cool options like cold buckwheat noodles, and in cold weather there are warm dishes like nabe, so it seems like a great place to visit regardless of season. Every dish felt made with care, making me want to come back again. If you're looking for a good place to eat in Chuncheon's Hyoja-dong, I recommend Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch.
