Today I visited a Suwon lunch spot, "Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch"!🩵
Ok Doenjang is located in Suwon Hommaesil, and it's already famous as a go-to spot for office workers in the area! Since you can eat lunch alone here, it's perfect for anyone who likes solo dining or has to eat alone as an office worker!

Ok Doenjang's menu, from doenjang stew to makgeolli and highballs
The most famous menu item is the doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), but there's also sundubu (soft tofu) hot pot, spicy braised galbi, boiled pork hot pot, jeon (savory pancakes), and lots of other Korean dishes!
There's also a wide range of drinks — traditional liquor, makgeolli, and highballs too — so I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bar in Hommaesil!! If you're craving makgeolli in Hommaesil, come here and pair it with a jeon!!
Inside Ok Doenjang: seats that work for eating alone
The exterior has a retro vibe while still looking clean!!
It's open from 11am to 11pm and solo dining is possible, so feel free to come by for a meal or even a solo drink haha
Free side dishes: mixed boiled pork salad and umma gim seaweed
Even the basic side dishes that come with the meal were so delicious!! There's stir-fried kimchi and a mixed boiled pork salad that's also sold as its own menu item! It's a dish made by tangy-dressing beef shank and beef tendon that are boiled fresh every morning — I was so surprised it's served as a basic side dish!! Honestly, I loved it from the side dishes alone~
And there's a tin called "umma gim" (mom's seaweed) at every table, so you can help yourself to as much seaweed as you want! They sell the seaweed separately too, and it's definitely good!!
They also sell the seaweed that comes with Ok Doenjang's basic menu items! The interior is spacious with sofa seating and baby chairs too~ There are also two-person tables, so it's great for solo dining!

Wow~! This is two servings! The beef pork belly doenjang hot pot had a really generous amount of meat! I was so satisfied to find a place where you can have a whole meal with rice alongside a doenjang hot pot like this~ There was also a lot of tofu, and chili peppers scattered throughout meant there wasn't any greasiness at all! By the way, rice comes with it too!
Bulssuji stir-fry, 17,900 won, with kalguksu noodles added
Next up is the bulssuji stir-fry at ₩17,900! With deep savory flavor, a gentle spiciness, and chewy kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) noodles added in, it's a dish that stays delicious to the very last bite!
The kalguksu noodles were coated well with the sauce, which I loved, and the beef tendon (suji) was really chewy with a generous amount too!!
Squid and minari pancake, 22,900 won — still crisp after it cools
Last up is the ₩22,900 squid minari pancake. It's a pan-fried pancake loaded with springy squid and fragrant minari (water dropwort)! Seriously, how did they get the pancake this crispy?? Not a single soggy spot — it was crispy all over, and stayed crispy even as time went on!
Personally, this is the best Korean restaurant I've eaten at recently!!!
