Jangyu solo-dining kalguksu with Cass beer: Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu
In short
Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant on Deokjeong-ro in Jangyu, Gimhae, specializing in dongjuk (clam) kalguksu, or hand-cut noodle soup. On this return visit the order was one serving of dongjuk kalguksu, a seafood chive pancake and a cold Cass beer: the broth came out clear with a gentle sea aroma, and the pancake was packed with squid and shrimp. Between the large private parking lot and the separate solo seats, Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is an easy stop whether you drive over or eat alone.

Today I'm sharing a story from Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu, a place I go to in Jangyu, Gimhae whenever I'm craving kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup).
I'd been here before, and this time I was craving kalguksu again so I went back. Once again it was delicious and I left satisfied!

Is parking easy at Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu in Jangyu?
Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu has a big private parking lot right next to the restaurant, so coming by car was no hassle at all. That's actually one of the reasons I like this place so much.
Finding parking around Jangyu when you're eating out can be a low-key stressor, but here there's a spacious private lot, which I really appreciate haha.

Inside Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu: are the solo seats good for eating alone?
After parking and walking into Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu, the interior turned out to be much bigger than I expected. There are a ton of tables, so it's great for groups, and there's also a separate solo-seating area for people eating alone.
So I thought it'd be a good spot for a solo meal too.

What we ordered and the side dishes that came with it
That day we ordered a seafood chive pancake, a bowl of dongjuk kalguksu, and a cold Cass beer. Just kalguksu alone felt a bit lacking, so we added the pancake too — and I'm glad we did lol.

The basic side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and geotjeori (fresh kimchi). Kalguksu just isn't complete without kimchi, right! The spicy, tasty geotjeori went really well with the noodles. When we ordered the seafood chive pancake, they also brought chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) and soy sauce for dipping.

The tables were spaced out generously overall, which made for comfortable dining, and since the place is so spacious it didn't feel crowded even with other diners around. There was also a self-serve bar, so anything extra we needed for the meal was easy to grab.

How is the dongjuk (clam) kalguksu broth and portion size?
The kalguksu came out pretty quickly after ordering. And of course kalguksu tastes best piping hot, right when it arrives!
This is exactly my favorite style of kalguksu — a clear broth with a mild, subtle seafood aroma. Doesn't it look refreshing just from the photo? Haha.
And for a single serving, the portion was pretty generous. There was plenty of noodles too, so one bowl left me full. Best of all, the soup was packed with dongjuk (clams), so it was fun picking them out one by one!!

Kalguksu with a cold glass of Cass
Maybe because of the weather, I was really craving a cold beer that day, so we ordered a Cass too — pairing hot kalguksu with a cold beer turned out to be its own kind of treat. If you've ever wanted a beer alongside your kalguksu, you'll get it lol.

The noodles weren't overcooked and mushy — they came out just right. Picking them up with chopsticks and eating them with the broth, the texture was chewy yet soft, and the clams were tender rather than tough, which was great.
The broth itself was clean and refreshing, so my spoon kept going back for more. Pairing it with the spicy geotjeori kimchi was a perfect match. A bite of kalguksu, a bite of kimchi — you just can't stop lol.

Seafood chive pancake dipped in chojang
Then the seafood chive pancake we'd been waiting for arrived. Its size alone caught my eye as soon as it landed on the table. True to its name, it was full of chives, and it had far more squid and shrimp on top than I expected lol.
In particular, the seafood chunks were packed in generously throughout, so every bite came with a piece of squid or shrimp attached. The outside was crispy and the inside was moist, which made it a great pairing with the kalguksu.
I personally prefer dipping jeon (savory pancake) in chojang rather than soy sauce, so that day I dunked it deep in chojang too. It really suits my taste haha. If you're a chojang fan, definitely try it this way!!!

Enough food for two: kalguksu plus the seafood chive pancake
The kalguksu was loaded with clams and the seafood chive pancake was packed with seafood, so ordering both together for two people was more than enough for a full meal. The portions were generous and we walked out full.
Above all, the fact that this is a place I came back to kind of says it all. It's not a one-and-done spot — it's the kind of place you find yourself returning to whenever kalguksu comes to mind.
If you're looking for a good kalguksu restaurant in Gimhae, put Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu on your list. It's a solid choice whenever you're craving Korean food in Jangyu, and I'd especially recommend it to anyone looking for a place with easy parking :)
