Yeouido Finance Tower office lunch, gyukatsu set: Hurato Sikdang

In short

Hurato Sikdang Yeouido is a Japanese gyukatsu (fried beef cutlet) restaurant on the 3rd floor of Yeouido Finance Tower in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. The writer came at lunchtime, ordered two gyukatsu set menus, and grilled the lightly fried beef piece by piece on a personal tabletop stove to the preferred doneness. Even in the packed lunch rush at Hurato Sikdang, every last piece stayed hot — a satisfying weekday lunch for office workers.

Hi everyone~~! It's Nuni haha!! Lol. Every lunchtime, picking what to eat is kind of a whole ordeal, isn't it haha. This time I really wanted proper meat, so I went to Hurato Sikdang, a Japanese-style gyukatsu (beef cutlet) specialist :)

Hurato Sikdang on the 3rd floor of Yeouido Finance Tower: what the lunch rush is like

Hurato Sikdang Yeouido is on the 3rd floor of Yeouido Finance Tower. I went during lunch, and true to its popularity, the place was absolutely packed. Lots of office workers grabbing lunch, plus lots of people who came specifically for gyukatsu — definitely a bustling lunchtime scene.

Still, the reason I wanted to wait it out was the gyukatsu♥

Table setting at Hurato Sikdang

Hurato Sikdang is a Japanese-style gyukatsu specialist where the cutlet is fried just until the outside is crispy, and you grill it yourself to your liking on a personal tabletop stove. It's known as a place Lee Young-ji shouted out, and I heard CORTIS visited every weekend back in their trainee days, which made me even more curious haha.

Ordering the gyukatsu set for two at Hurato Sikdang: what comes on the table

We didn't even need to think about it — ordered the gyukatsu set menu for two right away! After a short wait, each set arrived neatly plated, and the gyukatsu looked so appetizing right off the bat haha.

The outside comes fried golden brown while the inside stays reddish, and you place a piece at a time on the personal stove at your table and cook it to whatever degree you like :) The reason I love this self-grilled style of gyukatsu is that you get to eat it piping hot every single time!!

How to grill the gyukatsu on the personal stove, and how it tastes

With Hurato Sikdang's gyukatsu, you don't cook everything at once — you put on just one or two pieces at a time and grill them golden on both sides lol. We were starving so we piled on a bunch lol lol, and watching it sizzle away on the stove was strangely fun, even the waiting part lol.

If you grill it too long the meat can get tough, so I cooked it just enough on both sides and ate it right away. One bite in — the outside was crispy and savory, the inside was tender — genuinely delicious! I guess gyukatsu really is best fresh off the grill and warm haha.

Eat a piece, put several more on the stove~ lol lol lol lol. Since I could grill it to exactly the doneness I wanted, I got to enjoy it right to the last bite. It was also nice that if you and your companion have different preferences, the personal stove lets each of you grill to your own taste :)

Is the gyukatsu set enough for one office lunch?

The gyukatsu set comes with rice and side dishes, so it was pretty filling for a lunch. The gyukatsu itself is delicious, but ordering the full set meant I got rice to go with it, which was great!! Eating rice and banchan (side dishes) in between bites of meat kept it from feeling monotonous, instead of just eating meat nonstop. Especially a warm, freshly grilled piece of gyukatsu with a bite of rice — that combo is basically foolproof lol.

At first I wondered how the portion for two would feel, but with each of us having our own gyukatsu set, it was a satisfying lunch. Personally, I'm not a fan of gyukatsu where the breading is so thick it buries the meat flavor — I prefer to taste both the meat and the crispy exterior together.

Grilling the meat yourself right at the table and eating it fresh really let Hurato Sikdang's gyukatsu show off its signature flavor and texture :) I could see why it's so crowded at lunchtime haha.

Who is Hurato Sikdang Yeouido a good fit for?

Unlike regular donkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), there's real fun in grilling it yourself at the table, so it's great for a day when a plain lunch menu feels a bit boring. It'd also work well for a blind date or date night, or when you want a slightly special lunch with coworkers! Grilling the meat piece by piece on your own stove naturally slows down the pace of the meal, and it was nice being able to eat every last bite warm.

Above all, the taste was the most satisfying part that day♥ Grilling the crispy gyukatsu on my own stove to whatever degree I wanted, then eating it hot right away, meant every single piece was delicious haha. If you're like me and love meat and love gyukatsu, Hurato Sikdang's gyukatsu set is worth trying!!

It's known as the restaurant Lee Young-ji shouted out, and there's also the story that CORTIS visited every weekend during their trainee days, so fans might be extra curious :) When we went it was pretty packed at lunchtime, so if you want a more relaxed meal, it might be worth avoiding the peak hours.

We ordered the gyukatsu set for two that day and grilled it piece by piece on our own stoves, quite thoroughly haha. Crispy outside, tender meat, plus the fun of grilling it ourselves — it made for a satisfying lunch haha. Next time I'm craving gyukatsu, I'd love to come back to Hurato Sikdang and grill it up warm again♥
