Seongsu ramen lunch for three with unlimited rice refills: Menya Pomo
In short
Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch is a tomato-based ramen restaurant in a semi-basement off Yeonmujang-gil, a short walk from Seongsu Station Exit 4 in Seongdong, Seoul. Three friends ordered the beef katsu tomato ramen (original, 9,000 won base), the Indian beef katsu ramen and a pork katsu set at the kiosk, then stirred free unlimited rice into the leftover broth to make a tomato risotto. Menya Pomo is a satisfying pick in Seongsu when the usual lunch menus feel boring.

For the weekend, my friends and I took a little trip to Seongsu-dong. We wandered the back alleys, hit up some cafés, and checked out one of Seongsu's famous bakeries — a proper date-course kind of day. Today I'm recording what we had for lunch.
Instead of the same old menu, I wanted something a bit unusual and special, so we went to 'Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch,' known as one of the go-to ramen restaurants in Seongsu. Since we were in Seongsu, I picked something you don't see often around the neighborhood. 💕
I love noodle dishes and eat pretty much any kind often, but this was my first time trying tomato ramen at Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch. Here's the review of the four flavors of tomato ramen that won over me and my friends, our pork katsu feast, and the unlimited rice refills we made full use of.

Is there a wait at 2pm on a weekend? Inside the restaurant
Around 2pm on the weekend, just past the lunch rush, the restaurant was still packed inside. Luckily there was no wait, so we got seated right away.
Set apart from the usual Seongsu bustle, the dim lighting and calm mood, paired with wood-tone tables and counter seats, felt great for solo dining or for a date/friend hangout course in Seongsu.

What three friends ordered at Menya Pomo
Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch is known for its distinctive tomato-based ramen. With original, tom yum, Indian, beef bone broth and tantan bases all on offer, we spent a while agonizing over which one would be worth talking about haha 🥸
We ended up ordering three dishes from the kiosk: beef katsu tomato ramen (original), Indian beef katsu ramen, and the pork katsu set (beef katsu set).

How does the original beef katsu tomato ramen taste?
The basic side dish felt pickle-like — tangy, with whole peppercorns showing up here and there that really woke up the palate.

Beef katsu tomato ramen (original) — this was my first time having tomato ramen, and that first sip's slight sourness made my mouth water. It felt unfamiliar, but I kept going back for more broth.

It wasn't overly strong or too salty — the deep flavor of chicken and pork broth blended smoothly with the tomato, so my stomach felt comfortable even as I kept eating. The tomato flavor wasn't too intense, which worked well for a first-timer like me.

Indian beef katsu ramen and the cutlet
The Indian beef katsu ramen had a subtle curry flavor spreading through it — an unusual ramen where the spices added an exotic, distinctive touch.

The katsu on top of the ramen was delicious. Even soaked in the broth, it didn't get soggy easily and the meat's juiciness held up well.
How was the pork katsu set?
The pork katsu set was so popular that all three of us devoured it in no time — the pork katsu was tender and juicy.

The cabbage underneath was tossed in seasoning — familiar but somehow addictive, and it went perfectly with the pork katsu.
How to make tomato risotto with the leftover broth
Here's a tip for making risotto at Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch! Once you've finished the noodles, mix white rice into the thickened, reduced tomato broth, and you get a tomato risotto with a completely different appeal from the ramen!!! You end up fully enjoying two dishes — ramen and risotto — in one meal, and we left completely stuffed. 👍👍👍
Unlimited rice refills and the photo review event
Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch has a rice cooker by the window where you can help yourself to as much free rice as you want — 'unlimited rice refills.' The noodle portion was already generous, but the true highlight is mixing rice into the leftover broth! 👍 A move only the seasoned know.

Final verdict on Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch

This wasn't food with overpowering seasoning that wears out your palate — even after eating my fill, my mouth felt clean and light rather than heavy, which was really satisfying. If you're tired of the same old menu and looking for something different, I recommend Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch, one of the go-to ramen restaurants in Seongsu.
