Family Korean BBQ feast with intestine skewers near Mapo Station

In short

Mapo Gui Madang Yonggang Direct Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Yonggang-dong near Mapo Station, Seoul. A family of three dropped in unplanned after a scrambled competition day and ended up ordering 7 servings of frozen pork belly, whole pork belly, 2 servings of whole intestine skewers, beef brisket, and three kinds of cold noodles — clearing almost every plate. The frozen pork belly, intestine skewers, and mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) stood out most, and this family would happily return.

If you're looking for a good restaurant near Mapo Station, pay attention!

I tried frozen pork belly, whole pork belly, whole intestine skewers, brisket, and cold noodles myself at Mapo Gui Madang, so here's my honest, self-paid review with parking info and a rundown of every dish.

Mapo Gui Madang near Mapo Station, from frozen pork belly to whole intestines

I ended up at Mapo Gui Madang while searching for a good Korean BBQ restaurant near Mapo Station. We showed up starving that day, so we really went for it — frozen pork belly, whole pork belly, whole intestine skewers, brisket, and cold noodles. 😋

Bottom line first: the value was solid and the food was tasty, so I'd go back.

An unplanned stop at a Mapo Station BBQ spot — where to park?

That day was chaos from the morning because of our kid's competition. Breakfast was just a banana, and when the schedule got pushed back, lunch ended up being a quick burger.

Luckily our kid ended up winning an award, so we waited until the 5pm ceremony. Right after it wrapped up, on the way to a lesson in Seocho, the lesson got cancelled out of nowhere. Since we were already on Gangbyeon-buk-ro, we turned toward Mapo Station near my husband's office, searched for a good BBQ restaurant nearby, and landed on Mapo Gui Madang.

We parked at the nearby Yonggang 2 Public Parking Lot, and since it was the weekend, parking was free!! Such a nice bonus haha.

First order: the frozen pork belly, since it comes out fastest

Since the whole family was starving, we started with 2 servings of frozen pork belly. While waiting, I noticed a phrase on the wall as I looked around the restaurant.

"Prepared with sincerity."

It gave me a good feeling somehow. 😊 We sprinkled pepper over the meat and grilled it on the stone plate along with green onion kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi, and garlic.

The frozen pork belly was savory yet light — the kind of flavor that keeps your chopsticks moving. Naturally, we ended up ordering more. 😂

Before finishing the frozen pork belly, we also added 1 serving of raw whole pork belly and 1 serving of whole intestine skewers, but the meat took a while to arrive. It turned out they were being pre-seared over a charcoal fire by the front window.

Not wanting to break our eating rhythm, we ended up ordering 2 more servings of frozen pork belly haha. And finally, the whole pork belly and whole intestine skewers arrived!

Even though we were already eating frozen pork belly, we devoured these too. 🤣 I especially loved the whole intestine skewers, which are a favorite of mine. Chewy texture, hardly any off-smell, and a rich, savory flavor — really delicious.

Loved it from the first bite, so we ended up adding another order of the intestine skewers later haha.

From brisket to cold noodles — the feast kept going

And that wasn't the end. My husband added 1 more serving of brisket and 2 more servings of frozen pork belly, plus mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup), bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles), and chapssal bibimmyeon (chewy mixed noodles with a special sauce).

Additional order of brisket and frozen pork belly

The brisket needs no explanation — beef is always right haha. Eating cold noodles after BBQ is always a great combo, and my husband especially loved the mul-naengmyeon broth, drinking it down to the last drop haha.

My husband and son split the mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon in half, and both said they loved them. The special-sauce chapssal bibimmyeon had a slightly more savory, richly oily feel compared to a regular store-bought mixed noodle.

Next time I want to try the other ramyeon-based menu items we didn't get to that day.

Throughout the meal, the owner and staff responded quickly to every request. When we first walked in, the tables were almost full, and even as we ate, new customers kept coming in as others left. By the time we paid and left, the tables were nearly full again. If you need an apron, just ask the staff.

We got one refill of lettuce and asked for extra ssamjang (dipping paste) too, and enjoyed it all.

Everything our family of three ordered — and yes, we'd go back ❤️

We really ordered a lot that day.

  • 7 servings frozen pork belly
  • 1 serving whole pork belly
  • 2 servings whole intestine skewers
  • 1 serving beef brisket
  • mul-naengmyeon
  • bibim-naengmyeon
  • chapssal bibimmyeon

We really went all out. 😂 But the more important part is that

We cleared almost every single plate!

Personally, the dishes that stuck with me most were the frozen pork belly, the whole intestine skewers, and the mul-naengmyeon.
