Palm-sized king pork cutlets and curry cutlet in Sanbon: Onjeong

Today I visited a restaurant in the Sanbon academy district. Since it specializes in pork cutlets, they say the oil is kept nice and clean!

Because they only specialize in pork cutlets, it feels more trustworthy — they use Dodram Korean pork. The ingredients are really good, and they fry it fresh the moment you order!

I came outside weekday mealtime, so I could sit comfortably, but by the time I left, dinner rush hit and it was nearly full~ The tables also looked good for solo dining, and this place seems to be famous as a solo lunch or solo dining spot.

We ordered the spicy pork cutlet with soba noodle set~ and also the Onjeong curry pork cutlet as a single item! The set menu is 15,000 won and the single item is 13,500 won, but adding just 1,500 won gets you soba noodles too, which was nice haha.

Self-serve side dishes and free unlimited rice at Onjeong

And the side dishes are self-serve, so you can help yourself as much as you like, and the rice is free and unlimited, which was great!! I felt this place was good for solo dining because with a self-serve bar like this, you can eat generously without feeling self-conscious even when eating alone.

And finally the pork cutlets arrived~ The visuals alone were a pass — I couldn't fit it all in a photo so I took a video instead! I understood right away why this is a famous Sanbon pork cutlet spot!

The cutlets were so big that there were two palm-sized cutlets in there. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves king-sized pork cutlets~ Also the meat was thick compared to the breading, which I liked, and since it's domestic Korean pork, it was definitely tender and savory!

Spicy pork cutlet and buckwheat soba set, 15,000 won

The second dish to arrive was the soba noodle and pork cutlet set. Getting two menu items for 15,000 won felt really good value!

The spicy pork cutlet came as a single piece, but the portion wasn't lacking at all~ The spicy pork cutlet definitely had a kick compared to the regular one, but for people who like spicy food, it wasn't overwhelming — just the right amount. It was spicy in a deliciously balanced way~

Since it's made with domestic Korean pork, there was definitely no gamey smell, and it was moist and tender. The savoriness in particular felt different from other places~ And the salad and corn went really well with it too~

Why choose buckwheat soba over udon at Onjeong?

I'm someone who likes noodles, and especially in summer I love refreshing soba noodles! Plus I thought soba would cut through the richness of the pork cutlet better than udon, so I ordered soba instead of udon — and it was the best choice~

There was wasabi, grated radish, and even lemon in it, so it was refreshing and the broth was really cool and crisp~

I thought this was just a good Sanbon pork cutlet spot, but the soba noodles are also excellent, so I'd recommend that too. I expected the soba that comes with the set to be a small portion, but it was actually a full-sized serving~

And the morning bread that came as a side also came with strawberry jam, so you could eat it like a snack or as an appetizer before the meal~ This is a Sanbon pork cutlet spot that kids would really love!

How clean was the frying oil at this pork cutlet restaurant?

After going to Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang, I realized you really should eat pork cutlets at a specialty restaurant — the oil is clean and they use Korean pork, so it's on a completely different level from the pork cutlets you'd get at a regular gimbap chain. The frying had no gamey odor at all, and the oil was definitely well-drained, giving that crispy-outside-juicy-inside texture!

Next time I should try the original gyeongyangsik pork cutlet, but the spicy pork cutlet sauce was so delicious that it's definitely one of the menu items I want to recommend!
