Ramen shop near Bucheon Station with too-spicy karai: Gyeoretsu Ramen
In short
Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch is a counter-seat ramen shop on Buil-ro 445beon-gil near Bucheon Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi. The order was karai (spicy) tonkotsu ramen at 9,500 won, karai iekei ramen at 10,500 won and chicken karaage at 5,500 won, all requested with less salt and less oil; the noodles and broth were satisfying, but the karai heat was far stronger than expected and left both diners with an upset stomach the next day. If you are weak with spice, order the regular ramen at Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch instead of the karai.

It's only been two weeks since maternity leave started, and I'm SOOOOO bored haha... Not that I want to go back to the office, but the baby's room is all set up, the hospital bag is packed, and I'm already going to prenatal yoga and Chinese class — yet somehow my days feel way too relaxed and I just can't adjust to it, ugh.
I'll probably miss this kind of free time once the baby comes and things get hectic haha, but for now I've confirmed that lounging around like an unemployed person just isn't my style... Our dog Pepper sleeps all day long though — is he just not bored at all? Genuinely fascinating.
Anyway, this is Tina, counting down the hours until my husband gets home from work every single day! Today was the day we finally visited the ramen place we always walk past on our daily neighborhood strolls, and I was excited about it from the morning.
Where is Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch, and what are the hours?

Very close to Bucheon Station

Just a note on hours for your reference. We usually only walked by late in the evening so we never noticed, but even on a weekday evening the place was packed with customers!

Inside Gyeoretsu Ramen: counter seats made for solo diners
The inside of Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch is mostly filled with counter seats facing the kitchen, plus one large 8-seat table. There's no separate 2-seat table, so if you sit at the 8-seater you'll kind of end up sharing the table with other groups.

It feels more like a spot for college students eating solo than for group gatherings. After ordering, you grab your own side dishes from the self-serve bar! Orders are placed at the kiosk :)
Menu and what we ordered — the seasoned egg is not included
At Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch, the seasoned egg (mat-gyeran) isn't a default topping. If you want egg, be sure to add it from your very first order.

Tina was so hungry she ordered in a rush and completely forgot to add the egg... OMG.
- Karai Tonkotsu Ramen: ₩9,500
- Karai Iekei Ramen: ₩10,500
- Chicken Karaage: ₩5,500
Karai tonkotsu ramen, ordered with less salt and less oil
Turns out at Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch you can request your salt and oil level! I ordered mine low salt, low oil, and the karai (spicy) tonkotsu ramen was ₩9,500.

I wanted something spicy so I ordered the karai version, but it was way spicier than I expected — if you can't handle spice, I'd recommend going with the regular ramen instead of karai... That said, the noodle texture and broth flavor were genuinely delicious 😊 Thinking about it now, maybe going low-oil made mine taste even spicier?
I'd heard their mazesoba was also a must-try, so I was curious, but it was sold out that day — such a bummer I couldn't try it. I'll definitely order the mazesoba next time I visit!

Iekei ramen at Gyeoretsu Ramen: chicken-fat broth and thicker noodles
The karai iekei ramen is ₩10,500, made with chicken fat for a broth flavor that's quite different from the tonkotsu version. The noodles are also a bit thicker in the iekei than the tonkotsu.
Honestly my husband can't handle spice at all, so he just ordered the plain iekei ramen — but both bowls came out karai (spicy)... Well, no big deal, it was tasty so we just ate it as is haha. It felt less spicy than the tonkotsu, but his stomach still suffered from the early hours of the next morning haha. If you're sensitive to spice, please please please go with the regular ramen!!!

We calmed our burning stomachs down with chicken karaage. Karaage is ₩5,500.

Free unlimited rice: add furikake and soak it in the ramen broth
One of the best things about Gyeoretsu Ramen! Rice refills are unlimited and free. Sprinkling furikake on it and mixing it into the leftover broth is just so good >-<
Guys with big appetites are really going to love this. Watching the other customers, everyone made sure to mix in at least one bowl of rice before leaving! My husband had a bowl too and finished his meal nice and full.

If you're near Bucheon University, this ramen restaurant is worth a visit :)

Our must-stop these days on our walks... waffles^^ The doctor told us to eat more protein than carbs, but it feels like we're raising the baby on bread and flour instead haha. Gotta eat lots of meat this weekend!!
