Abalone vs steak pot rice compared at Gome Mui, Munjeong-dong

In short

Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a pot rice and tonkatsu restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. On a second visit, the writer ordered abalone pot rice and steak pot rice, both 17,000 won, comparing the butter-and-scallion abalone version with the garlic-flake-and-egg steak version, finishing with nurungji (scorched rice) at the end. Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a solid pick for a tidy, hearty pot rice meal.

Gome Mui combines the Japanese word gome (米), meaning rice, with mui (無二), meaning 'one of a kind,' symbolizing a precious flavor found nowhere else. We do our best every season to bring you new dishes made with fresh, in-season ingredients. — From Gome Mui's introduction

Side dishes served with the abalone pot rice

The abalone pot rice is packed with abalone. It's loaded with butter, sesame seeds, and chopped scallions inside, and mixing it with the sauce that comes alongside adds even more savory depth.

This was my second visit, and I ordered the abalone pot rice last time too — it came out so clean and upscale that I ended up ordering it again haha. As a classic tonic dish, it's perfect for a healthy meal.

The finishing touch: nurungji

I think the real charm of pot rice is the nurungji (scorched rice)~ If you ask for more side dishes, they bring you plenty, so don't be shy — enjoy the nurungji together with some tasty side dishes :p Hot, refreshing, and honestly the best dessert~

Steak pot rice

The steak pot rice comes with steak, garlic flakes, and egg all mixed in. It comes with a sauce too, good for dipping, and also pairs well with the side dishes.

It was so hot inside that even though the egg came out soft-boiled, it ended up fully cooked by the time I got to it hahat. Mix it all together and top it with myeongran-jeot (salted pollock roe) — absolute jackpot flavor.

They also have yogurt set out, so grabbing one on your way out takes care of dessert too ♥

In summary

A healthy meal, tidy and upscale pot rice. Gome Mui has plenty of other dishes besides pot rice, but the pot rice is so good that I always end up ordering just that~ Next time I'll have to try the curry, tonkatsu, and udon too^^ Have a delicious and hearty meal today :p
