Where is Baegya Coffee in Gangneung?

Baegya Coffee is an ocean-view café on the coastal road near Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung. One thing you can't skip on a Gangneung trip is sipping coffee while looking out at the sea, right? This time I visited Baegya Coffee, right in front of Sageunjin Beach.

What is on each floor of this four-floor bakery café?

Baegya Coffee, a Gangneung café, is a large four-floor building.

• 4th floor - Rooftop
• 3rd floor - Seating

• 1st floor - Bakery / seating

That's the layout, and you order on the 1st floor.

Let's look at the 1st floor first. You can see the ceiling is incredibly high even right when you walk in. True to a Gangneung bakery café, there were tons of different breads.

Most of the breads were kept inside display cases, which was great for cleanliness too. The ones that need refrigeration are kept nice and cool in a chilled case.

Apparently all of Baegya Coffee's bread uses natural leaven made with French wheat, minimizing the gluten protein in the flour, and the long, low-temperature aging and fermentation is supposed to make it easier to digest. Also, every product is made in-house at Baegya Coffee, following a same-day-baked, same-day-sold principle.

There was so much I wanted to eat that I don't even know how long I stared at the bakery zone. (Sis with decision paralysis, fully resurrected right here.)

What we ordered at Baegya Coffee and what it cost

After a lot of agonizing, here's what we ended up ordering.

Prices are usually sky-high at tourist spots, but for a large Gangneung café — a bakery café, and an ocean-view one at that — this felt very reasonable.

The rooftop and the sea-view seats on the 3rd floor

After ordering, we went to check out the other floors. First, the 4th-floor rooftop. It offers the most open view of Gangneung's sea and sky, a totally different charm from the indoor ocean view. (📍 Rooftop access is restricted during snow, rain, or windy conditions.)

This is the 3rd floor. I thought it was really clever that instead of just packing the space with seats, they lined up the chairs in a row like a movie theater so you can focus on the sea view.

Meanwhile, our drinks and bread were ready, so we took the elevator down to the 2nd floor. I was impressed that there's even a small shelf inside the elevator for setting down trays or bread. That kind of small consideration at Baegya Coffee made me feel how carefully they'd thought through guests' movement through the space ✨

The 2nd and 3rd floors were similar, and both had outdoor seating too — eating with the sea breeze on your face was really romantic. Baegya Coffee also has a microwave for warming up bread and several types of phone chargers.

How the corn cream shot latte and Valrhona chocolat bliss taste

Now let's try the bread.

The Americano had a bit of acidity with a clean finish, which paired well with the baked goods. The corn cream shot latte had corn flavor that wasn't artificial at all and matched beautifully with the smooth cream. You have to drink it without stirring to really appreciate it — bittersweet, nutty, and with the corn's natural sweetness, it was so good!

The corn mayo cheese bread had a really impressive crunchy bite from the corn topping, and it was even better warmed up. The Valrhona chocolat bliss was my top pick just for how luxurious it looked — coated in Valrhona chocolate on the outside with hazelnut inside, mixing sweet chocolate with nutty hazelnut in a way that was absolutely delicious. Instant sugar rush!

After enjoying great drinks and bread while looking at the sea at Baegya Coffee, I'd recommend taking photos right in front at Sageunjin Beach.
