Uijeongbu bakery with 2,000-won americano and salt bread: Byway Bakers
In short
Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch is a bakery café on Cheongsa-ro in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, directly in front of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government North Building. A takeout order of two fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt breads, two plain salt breads and one iced americano came to 22,900 won, and with the americano at just 2,000 won, adding a drink to the bread was easy on the wallet. Cracking the crisp shell of the wakppu and the mild, buttery plain salt bread were the highlights of the visit.

I'd heard about a bakery that was getting attention for its distinctive look and unique menu, so I made time to check it out. It's Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch (바이웨이 베이커스 청사본점), which stands out for its wide range of bakery and dessert items.

Where is Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch, and is there parking?
Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch sits right in front of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government North Building, and it's also close to Gyeonggi Provincial Government North Building Station on the Uijeongbu Light Rail, so it's easy to reach by public transit. If you're driving, there's a parking lot inside the building — note that the Gyeongnam Building lot is ground-level, not underground.
The orange storefront on Cheongsa-ro
The bright orange exterior caught my eye even from a distance, and the tidy, well-kept look made a strong impression. The cheerful color made the place easy to spot, and it built anticipation even before I stepped inside — what kind of bakery items would be waiting?

Inside Byway Bakers and its Grassland butter certification
Stepping inside, the space feels neatly organized. Every display case was packed with all kinds of bread and desserts, making it fun just to browse the menu. There were so many options that it was hard to decide what to pick, and the overall clean upkeep made for a pleasant space to look around in.

On one side of the store, I noticed a sign confirming it's an officially certified shop using Grassland butter. Grassland butter is made from the milk of grass-fed cows, and it's said to have a richer, nuttier flavor than regular butter.

What is on the menu at Byway Bakers, and what does it cost?
The menu at Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch is made up of a wide variety of baked goods and drinks, with the wakppu salt bread as the signature item. It comes in three flavors — peach yogurt, sweetcorn, and blueberry yogurt — priced from 7,500 to 8,500 won. Drinks include a range of coffee options along with teas and ades, and the americano is an easy 2,000 won.

What is in the chilled display case?
The chilled case held, besides the wakppu salt bread, cheesecake, fig pistachio tart, and fig pistachio salt bread. The tart, pistachio salt bread, and cheesecake in particular were piled generously with toppings, which made them look even more tempting. Just looking at them made me curious what they'd taste like.

Room-temperature shelves and package sets
The room-temperature shelves were lined with all kinds of baked goods — sliced bread, financiers, baguettes, croissants, and several types of salt bread — offering plenty of variety to pick from depending on your taste. Prices ranged from about 2,000 to 5,000-something won per item, an easy price point to enjoy, and the financiers and salt bread were even more reasonably priced when bought as a package instead of individually.

There was also a good selection of birthday candles on hand, handy for buying alongside a cake.
With Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving) coming up, Chuseok gift sets were also on display. When the holiday approaches, it's always a puzzle figuring out what gift to prepare, and a bakery gift set seemed like a nice, low-pressure way to show you care.

The 22,900-won takeout order at Byway Bakers
- Real peach yogurt wakppu salt bread 7,500 won × 2
- Salt bread 2,900 won × 2
- Iced americano 2,000 won
- Plastic bag 100 won

The americano had a heavy body and a clean finish. Paired with the sweet bakery items, the coffee's bitter edge balanced out the sweetness nicely, making them a good match.

What does the fresh peach yogurt wakppu salt bread taste like?
The real peach yogurt wakppu salt bread was a unique combination of real peach, tangy yogurt cream, and salt bread. The peach's sweet, tangy flavor combined with the softness of the yogurt cream, and the salt bread's nutty flavor rounded it all out into something quite distinctive. Cracking and crumbling the wakppu's outer shell before eating it made the whole experience feel fun and different.

What does the plain salt bread taste like?
The salt bread stood out for its crisp exterior and moist interior with a distinct buttery flavor. It wasn't overly salty — the salt's savory tang and the butter's nutty richness worked together in a well-balanced, clean bite.
