A Gomae-dong spot in Yongin: Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch

Right before Chuseok, my partner and I went shopping at Lotte Premium Outlet Giheung branch haha. We wanted to fill up on something good before shopping, so while looking for a nice place to eat, we stopped by Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch, which has been getting hot as a Gomae-dong restaurant lately!
From handmade noodle shabu kalguksu to minari (water dropwort) wraps and perilla oil kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice, this was a great value full course. Let me walk you through it now!

22 teams waiting at weekend lunch: how CatchTable remote queueing works
When you come to Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch, registering for the wait right away is a must. When I arrived, it was weekend lunch and the interior was completely packed with customers.
22 teams waiting, seriously..? It really lives up to being a famous restaurant near Lotte Premium Outlet Giheung!

Still, since this store supports CatchTable, reserving ahead before you visit makes things much easier haha. There's also a separate waiting area where you can sit, and while you wait you can even eat nostalgic retro snacks!

They even had cool, nutty misugaru (roasted grain powder) slush and coffee available, which was nice haha.

Since I'd already done remote queueing in advance through CatchTable, I got seated quickly without waiting long.

Beef brisket and minari wrap shabu kalguksu in spicy red broth, 15,500 won
You can choose between red broth, white broth, or mala broth (+₩1,000 per person), but shabu kalguksu has to be spicy, right? So I ordered the spicy broth without a second thought haha.

Since it's premium wagyu brisket, the meat had a beautiful color and came out neatly plated with very fresh-looking minari wraps.

Alongside it came top-grade 100% sesame oil and savory galchisokjeot (salted hairtail entrails), set up together haha.

They also serve handmade kalguksu noodles made with clean water, nuruk salt, and the finest flour — kneaded a whopping thousand times, apparently!
Depending on cooking time, you can enjoy five different textures: chewy (6 min), springy (7 min), bouncy (8 min), fluffy (9 min), and soft (10 min) haha.
The kimchi, made with domestic Uiseong garlic, dried pollack, and Namhae anchovies, is apparently freshly made in-house at least 3 times a day :)

With such good ingredients, I figured it would only taste better! Each table has instructions on how to eat it deliciously, so even first-timers can follow along slowly haha.

I tried the broth and oyster mushrooms first. They use spring-autumn oyster mushrooms, and the texture was chewy and paired well with the broth, so it was delicious haha.
I blanched the wagyu brisket lightly in the bubbling spicy broth and tried it — it was really tender!

It's delicious even plain, but dipping it in minari and top-grade sesame oil doubles the nuttiness.

I also tried adding a bit of galchisokjeot on top, and it was a real treat.
Adding the house-made kalguksu noodles: how was the texture?
After filling up on the meat and vegetables, I finally dropped in the handmade kalguksu noodles I'd been looking forward to!
They say not to pick up the noodles with tongs, just put them in as they are. After tasting them, I immediately understood why this place won the Food Master award haha. Totally chewy, soft, and delicious!

Eaten together with the domestic Uiseong garlic kimchi, it was an excellent Gomae-dong restaurant in Yongin that I couldn't stop eating.

Finishing with perilla oil kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice
Now it was time to try the perilla oil kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice! They apparently use 100% perilla oil, well-ripened kkakdugi, domestic seaweed flakes, and top-grade domestic new rice.

The perilla oil made the nuttiness spread through my whole mouth, so it was even more delicious haha. I recommend trying at least one bite even if you're already full!

Whole shrimp seafood pancake, the side dish worth 13,500 won
I also ordered the whole shrimp seafood pancake as a side dish, and it was crispy outside and moist inside, the definition of crispy-outside-tender-inside!

It was packed with big squid and tons of plump shrimp, so the texture was great and the flavor was rich and satisfying.

Is Jangwongap Kalguksu in Gomae-dong, Yongin worth the wait?
From the award-winning handmade kalguksu noodles to the premium wagyu brisket minari wraps, perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice, and the crispy-outside-tender-inside pancake, everything was perfect at this Gomae-dong restaurant in Yongin haha. I loved that it was hearty and satisfying with such a varied spread!
If you're heading to Lotte Premium Outlet Giheung for shopping, or looking for a tasty meal near Gomae-dong in Giheung, I recommend Jangwongap Kalguksu :)
