Custom suit shop in Ilsan, Goyang: father-of-the-groom fitting at JJ
In short
JJ Republic Ilsan Lafesta is a custom suit shop near Jeongbalsan Station and the Lafesta shopping street in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. Ahead of a wedding, the writer visited to order a father-of-the-groom suit, choosing fabric, buttons, shirt collar and cuffs, and had measurements taken that allowed for a middle-aged build with a fuller waist and narrower shoulders plus a stooped posture. JJ Republic makes the suits on its own in-house production line and throws in a tie, which made the visit well worth it.

Hi everyone! It's Doodoo.

With a wedding coming up soon, I finally took care of one of the things that had been weighing on me most: my father's suit as father of the groom!
I asked around for a good place and found one that left me really satisfied, so I wanted to introduce it to my neighbors too. The place we visited was JJ Republic, a custom suit shop in Ilsan. The shop was so comfortable and spacious that it was perfect for visiting with my parents, no rush at all.
Why a custom suit instead of off-the-rack for the father of the groom

Honestly, at first I thought about just casually browsing department store brands for something off-the-rack. It's only worn once, on the wedding day, so I wondered if it was really worth spending that much. But after going around several department stores, finding a design I actually liked turned out to be harder than expected.
Whenever I finally found something I liked, there was no size that fit my dad... and when the size fit, the design was often too plain or generic, a bit disappointing for such a special day.

My father especially has developed the typical middle-aged body shape over the years — a slight belly and narrower shoulders. Buying off-the-rack and having it altered everywhere seemed like it would cost more in alterations and ruin the fit anyway. Wanting my dad to look his best on such an important day, I ended up choosing a custom suit that could perfectly correct for his body shape.

There's something really important to check when choosing a custom suit shop! Apparently some shops are custom shops in name only — they just take your body measurements in-store and then send the actual suit-making out to an outside contractor.

When that happens, miscommunication can occur and the fit you want doesn't come out right, and if changes are needed, feedback is slow, so the finished product ends up taking forever.

JJ Republic, though, doesn't outsource — the head office directly owns and runs its own production line! Without any middle step, every detail I requested while consulting with the owner was fully reflected in the suit, my dad's figure was properly corrected for, and I could expect a high-quality, cost-effective father-of-the-groom suit.

On top of that already great value, they even threw in a tie for free — I was so satisfied!!
How measuring and body-shape adjustments work for a father-of-the-groom suit

Once the consultation got underway in earnest, they carefully walked us through everything starting from fabric color and type, down to each button, the shirt collar shape, and the sleeve cuff design, putting together a custom guide made just for my dad.

You could really tell they had their own in-house production line — the body-shape analysis was incredibly professional.

They measured with real precision, and even caught my father's habit of standing a bit stooped, adjusting the silhouette of the jacket back to correct for it.

At the shop, they carefully explained everything from fabric to buttons to collar shapes, one by one, running through a custom process made just for my father — I could really feel the deep craftsmanship in it. Overall I was extremely satisfied, and I'm so excited to see the finished father-of-the-groom suit.
