Icheon galbi restaurant, dinner on the drive home: Neul Gogi Jip
In short
Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch is a charcoal galbi (grilled ribs) restaurant on Gyeongchung-daero in Icheon, Gyeonggi. On the way home from a trip out of town, the writer had dinner here: two servings of nuruk-marinated pork galbi and neck meat, beef tendon doenjang stew, hwangmi pot rice and cold mul-naengmyeon noodles, with a staff member grilling everything at the table from start to finish. The banchan side dishes and ssam lettuce spread were generous, making Neul Gogi Jip a solid stop for a full galbi spread in Icheon.

On the way back from a countryside trip. Traffic was so bad that I decided to take a break, and passing through Icheon naturally got me thinking about dinner. I usually love pork galbi (marinated short rib) served with a full spread of side dishes, so I wanted to find somewhere that really delivers — and searching led me to Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch.

Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch: the building, parking and waiting area
The first thing that caught my eye at Neul Gogi Jip Icheon Main Branch was a banner reading 'Grand Prize, Speaker of the National Assembly Award.' The place was quite large with plenty of parking, which made it an easy stop after a trip out of town.
What stood out was that there's a separate waiting area set up outside the restaurant.

Seeing that made me realize this place regularly has a lot of waiting customers, which only raised my expectations for the food.
The menu and what we ordered: nuruk-marinated pork galbi and neck meat for two
Looking over the menu, there was a wide range of charcoal-grilled options — marinated pork galbi, marinated beef galbi, raw beef galbi, raw pork belly, and more.

We ordered the nuruk-marinated pork galbi-mokssal (marinated pork neck) for two, along with beef tendon doenjang stew, hwangmi pot rice, and mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle soup).
While waiting for our order, I noticed several certificates and awards hanging on the wall. From Korean cuisine master certifications to a Blue Ribbon Survey feature, the space carried a sense of expertise built up over a long time.

How many banchan side dishes and ssam vegetables come with it?
As soon as we sat down, the side dishes started arriving one after another at a rapid pace, and there were so many kinds. Some I'd never seen before, so it was fun trying each one, and the ssam (wrap) vegetables — lettuce, perilla leaves, cabbage, napa cabbage — were plentiful too, making it enjoyable to pick and wrap as we liked.

Staff grill the nuruk-marinated pork galbi for you — how does it taste?
Finally, the nuruk pork galbi we ordered arrived.

Once the meat arrived, a staff member grilled it right there at our table.
From trimming to grilling, they stood by our table and grilled the nuruk-marinated pork galbi-mokssal with real care, so we could just relax and eat.

Since I eat slowly, I was a little worried the meat might burn while I ate at my own pace once it was all grilled — but the staff moved it to the edge of the grill, so it stayed warm without burning and I could enjoy it deliciously all the way through.
Maybe thanks to the nuruk marinade, the meat was very tender, with a mild flavor that still felt familiar, like homemade galbi seasoning. The nicely browned meat got more tender the more I chewed, and it wasn't greasy, so I could eat several pieces without feeling weighed down.

Inside Neul Gogi Jip: the dining room and private rooms
The interior had a warm feel with a reddish color scheme, and with a grill set at every table, each seat felt private for dining.
One section of the restaurant had room seating, where a family was having a birthday meal.

The large table lighting concentrated toward the center, which made the food look even more appetizing. The food came out quickly, too, and staff stationed around the room kept an eye on things, so service was prompt.

A sign for a 'golden bomb' cheese egg custard event also caught my eye, which gave me the impression that the range of extra side dishes here was substantial.
Hwangmi pot rice, mul-naengmyeon and beef tendon doenjang stew
The self-serve ssam vegetable bar had fresh lettuce, perilla leaves, cabbage, and more, so we could help ourselves to as much as we wanted.
The hwangmi pot rice is made with hwangmi (yellow rice) milled fresh daily, and it came out slightly soft, with the nutty flavor still coming through. Eating it alongside the galbi made for a satisfying, filling meal.

Even the water bottle had a brand story printed on it, a nice touch, and on one wall hung a certified local food instructor credential along with a ServSafe certificate, showing they take hygiene management seriously too.

Lastly, the mul-naengmyeon we ordered had broth with real depth, like it was made from meat stock, and the noodles had a jade tint that caught the eye. The flavor was clean too, pairing perfectly with the meat. The beef tendon doenjang stew had a generous amount of tendon and was on the spicy side, which cut through the richness nicely.
Is Neul Gogi Jip worth a stop in Icheon?
This place had all three things going for it: a marinade that shows 30 years of know-how, a wide variety of side dishes, and fast, attentive service. If you want to properly enjoy Icheon galbi, or you're passing through Icheon on a trip out of town, it's well worth stopping by.
