Icheon beef BBQ on a weekend drive: citron-glazed platter, Jowatso

My husband and I went for a drive over the weekend to get some fresh air. I already love drives in general, but this time we ended up heading toward Icheon haha. We got hungry and, while trying to decide on lunch, ended up craving beef — so we stopped by Jowatso Janghowon Gamgok Main Branch!

Jowatso Janghowon Gamgok Main Branch is a charcoal beef BBQ restaurant in Janghowon-eup, Icheon, Gyeonggi, open Mon–Sun 11:00–22:00 (last order 21:20). Parking is available, and the listing notes group seating, takeout, reservations, Wi-Fi, baby chairs, separate men's and women's restrooms, and wheelchair access at both the entrance and the seating area.

When we pulled up, there was a big parking lot right in front, so we could go in without any parking worries. There's an even bigger lot behind the restaurant! Parking space matters a lot on weekends or during meal times, and this was such a relief haha.

Baby chairs and mini table fans are also on hand ✔️ Such a thoughtful owner 👍👍

The interior was spacious with generous gaps between tables, so it seemed like a good spot for family meals or gatherings too! And apparently the food is overseen by a professional cook certified in Korean, Japanese, Western cuisine, and even pufferfish preparation, so the trust in the food just shot up 🤍🤍

What comes on the 850g signature special-cuts platter

What we ordered was Jowatso's signature special-cuts platter 🖤 An 850g platter made up of woodae galbi (premium rib meat), bonkkotsal (chuck flap), sogalbisal (rib finger meat), buchaesal (flat iron), galbisal (rib meat), and citron-marinated grilled beef!

You can grab any extra side dishes you want from the self-serve corner.

Wow..... the meat is seriously generous.

Grilling order at Jowatso: bonkkotsal, buchaesal, then galbisal

We started properly with the bonkkotsal. The more you chew, the more the savory beef aroma comes through, and the juiciness held up nicely — very satisfying to eat.

The meat alone was already great, but pairing it with the basic side dishes brought out a different kind of appeal.

It was great to have the hot soup on hand whenever we craved something warm mid-meal, and its spiciness paired really well with the meat too! Being able to enjoy hangover soup right alongside the BBQ at a meat restaurant was a nice touch 🤍

Put the meat on top of the rice that came alongside, and boom — beef sushi ෆ

The buchaesal was delicious, and the galbisal was delicious too.

Grilling meat made things a bit warm, so we grabbed the fan and turned it on! It got a little hot from the charcoal, but the fan made it super comfortable 👍👍👍

Ahh... ෆ my beloved woodae galbi. Not exaggerating much when I say it melts in your mouth... Next time I might just order a ton of only woodae galbi 😻

After finishing our meal, as we were leaving, they gave us free ground beef. It's something you can bring home and actually use, so it ended the visit on a really good note 👍 It's not just about eating the meat and leaving — these little extra touches are what stick with you haha.
