Samsong haejangguk set for 20,000 won after Starfield: Jeju Eunhui-ne

In short

Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch is a Jeju-style hangover soup restaurant in the E-pyeonhansesang City Samsong shopping complex, by the back entrance of Starfield Goyang. After weekend shopping we ordered the set menu (haejangguk plus dombe pork) at 20,000 won and naejangtang (tripe soup) at 13,000 won, with free extra rice, broth and chili paste, and the option to leave out the blood cubes. Jeju Eunhui-ne is an easy stop when you want a bowl of soup before or after shopping.

You know that feeling after a weekend at Starfield Goyang — you've walked around and looked at everything, you're starving, but you can't decide what to eat? That's exactly where I was, and with the weather finally cooling down, all I could think about was soup! So I headed to Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch, a Starfield Goyang favorite!

At the Samsong branch, rice refills are free! Broth refills are free! Chili paste refills are free! And you can even ask to leave out the blood cubes — I really loved that.

Basic side dishes of peppers, ssamjang, and pickled radish
Plate of crisp pickled radish

The basic side dishes were peppers, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and pickled radish, and the radish was so crisp and just perfectly fermented — it seemed like it would go so well with the haejangguk.

What the dombe pork in the 20,000 won set looks like

The dombe pork arrived first, and it was gorgeous just to look at. The meat was boiled tender with no gamey smell at all, clean and light, and it got more savory the more I chewed.

There was a good mix of fattier cuts and lean meat, so I never got tired of it and kept reaching for more. It was great dipped lightly in salted shrimp, or wrapped with ssamjang — genuinely delicious.

Haejangguk with beef brisket and glass noodles

They came out together! First up, the haejangguk. This one had beef brisket and glass noodles, which set it apart from the naejangtang.

The richly brewed broth was warm and really opened up my insides. Eunhui-ne is famous for its beef haejangguk, right? It was loaded generously with blood cubes, ugeoji (dried cabbage leaves), bean sprouts, and glass noodles, so chewing through the ingredients was genuinely enjoyable.

Haejangguk ingredients including blood cubes, ugeoji, and bean sprouts

It was spicy in exactly the right way for a hangover soup. It wasn't as intense as I expected — more deep and savory — so I ended up finishing the broth completely.

It was genuinely spicy in a way that felt restorative, even though we hadn't been drinking. The portion of ingredients was so generous that my husband got full just from eating those alone.

The brisket was clean with no odd smell and generously portioned, so my husband, who loves meat, really enjoyed it.

Is the 13,000 won naejangtang gamey?

We couldn't skip the naejangtang either. I was a little worried the tripe might have that distinct gamey smell, but nope, not at all!

They must have cleaned it so thoroughly — there was no smell at all, and the chewy texture was still intact. The spicy yet deep broth was really refreshing.

Naejangtang with large chunks of gopchang and yang

And above all, the tripe was so generously loaded. You could bite into big chunks of gopchang (small intestine) and yang (beef stomach), which was really satisfying. There was also plenty of bean sprouts and siraegi (dried radish greens), so the aroma and texture were both rich. I mixed in rice and ate until I was completely full.

They also do takeout, so next time I'll grab some to eat at home! I highly recommend Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch, a Starfield Goyang favorite!
