On days when I want a really filling meal, kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) is the first thing that comes to mind! This time I visited Donggok Jemyeon, famous as a Gyodong spot in Daegu.

Every table has its own tablet, so you can browse the menu at your own pace and order and pay all in one go — really convenient.

The basic side dishes were neatly set out too, and not just kimchi — pepper, chicken salt, and plain salt were all on the table so you could season to your own taste, which I liked.

Soybean noodle soup (summer seasonal menu)

A bowl of summer-seasonal soybean noodle soup

The soybean noodle soup was seriously nutty and rich 👍🏻 The cool, thick soybean broth spreads across your mouth, but it's clean rather than heavy, so it's great on a hot day and I think fans of soybean noodle soup would be very satisfied.

Beef bone kalguksu

The moment I took the first sip of broth, I could really feel the deep, rich flavor of beef bone stock.

Topping it with kimchi brought the savory flavor even more alive — totally my type! 🤤

Yukgaejang kalguksu

Loaded generously with meat, bean sprouts, and mushrooms, it was great for a hearty meal.

The spiciness of the yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) paired so well with the handmade noodles that I never got tired of it, eating happily to the last bite!

Since the noodles are made in-house, the chewy texture really came through, making the meal even more satisfying ☺️

Pork platter (half order)

The meat was really tender and juicy, melting softly in the mouth.

Eating it with the ogeuragji (dried radish pickle) that came alongside added texture and even more savory depth, so I kept reaching for more. It paired really well with the kalguksu too, so I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for good bossam (boiled pork) spots in Daegu!
