While picking a dinner spot in Ingye-dong, I wanted something that felt like an actual meal that day, so I headed to Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch. Ingye-dong has plenty of bars and meat restaurants, but sometimes what I really crave is a hot bowl of soup with rice. So the menu I picked was bone haejangguk (pork bone soup).

Inside Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch, the tables were spaced generously, so it didn't feel awkward eating alone at all. I came by myself, and there were other solo diners too, while there was also plenty of room for bigger groups.

Seating suitable for solo dining

So it's worth considering if you're looking for a solo Korean dinner spot in Ingye-dong. Checking the menu, there was a good variety of haejangguk-style dishes — bone hot pot, bone haejangguk, special bone haejangguk, seonji haejangguk, and more.

Self-serve banchan: the first round comes to your table

The sign says banchan (side dishes) are self-serve, but they actually bring out the first round for you — after that, you help yourself to refills.

There was kkakdugi (radish kimchi), which pairs so well with haejangguk, and a moderately pickled onion side. Kkakdugi was my personal favorite haha.

What I ordered: the special bone haejangguk with 5 bones

Special bone haejangguk served in a stone pot

The moment I looked inside the ttukbaegi (stone pot), the first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the generous amount of bone. Meat clung to the bones, and there was plenty of ugeoji (dried napa cabbage leaves) and green onion, so it already looked like a substantial portion.

Ingredients inside the special bone haejangguk with 5 bones

Since I ordered the special size, there were 5 big bones inside. Picking the meat off each bone one by one was actually kind of fun. Pulling off the meat, dipping it lightly in the broth, and eating it with rice made for a really filling meal.

The meat came right off the bone with a single chopstick pull, no effort at all. Genuinely easy to eat!! :)

How spicy is the broth, and does it go with rice?

Spicy bone haejangguk broth with a bowl of rice

The broth is what I care about most when eating haejangguk. This time, the spicy broth paired with rice kept me reaching for my spoon over and over. Rather than an aggressively sharp heat, it was more of a savory, spicy-hot flavor that worked great with rice.

Meat and ugeoji lifted out of the haejangguk broth

Eating the meat and ugeoji together brought out the broth's rich flavor even more. Looks pretty rich in the photo, right? I love this style — a spicy, hearty broth loaded with meat — so I was very satisfied.

A spoonful of special bone haejangguk with rice

When looking for an Ingye-dong haejangguk dinner option, being filling really matters. The special bone haejangguk had plenty of bone meat, so eating it with rice made for a satisfying, full meal. A spoonful of spicy broth paired with kkakdugi made it a combo I kept going back for. And that's how I finished the whole bowl!

  • Generous amount of bone meat
  • Ugeoji and green onion add to the heartiness
  • Spicy broth pairs well with rice
  • Comfortable atmosphere even for solo dining
  • Ice cream available after the meal

If you like mixing rice into a hot broth, this is worth a stop as an Ingye-dong restaurant. Personally, I loved the combo of picking meat off the bone and dipping the ugeoji into the broth.

Spicy broth, plenty of meat — I got a proper meal out of this bowl of bone haejangguk! And afterward, I even got to finish off with ice cream, which made for a clean ending.
