Gray coverage in level 6 and scalp care at Sinchon salon Demon Hair

This time it wasn't me getting my hair done — it was my mom's turn! We went back to Demon Hair in Sinchon together after a while haha. The prices here are really reasonable, and I've had a layered cut, a perm, and a dye job here before. Since I was so happy with the results every time, I finally brought my mom along for her first visit!

What does the inside of Demon Hair Sinchon Branch look like?

The first thing you notice when you open the door is that it's overall white-toned, so it feels really bright and clean! There's a good amount of natural light coming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, so the space never feels stuffy, and the inner area was bigger than I expected. The waiting area and treatment area are also clearly separated, so there's no chaotic feeling moving back and forth...

You know how some salons cram the mirrors and chairs together when it's busy?? Demon Hair Sinchon Branch has decent space between seats, so I felt more comfortable during the treatment. Overall it's more clean and orderly than flashy, so it's a comfortable place to visit regardless of age! But since it's clearly been open for a long time, they really do have a lot of regulars.

Why the perm booking became gray coverage dye instead

First we consulted about the perm! Manager Taeyeon took care of us haha. We originally came in planning on a cut + perm~ But after looking at the state of the hair, she said quite a lot of the curl from the previous perm was actually still holding up.

She advised that doing another perm now would waste the curl that's still alive and just put extra strain on the hair, so it'd be better to switch to gray coverage dye instead of the perm this time! Honestly, since perms tend to be pricier, I thought we'd just go ahead with what we booked, but that wasn't the case at all — she looked at the current hair condition first and skipped the service we didn't actually need, which I really appreciated.

Once the cut was done, the curl was still naturally left at the ends, so in the end I think it really was the right call to just do the dye! By the way, before the treatment she also applied aroma oil — it was Ecolev's relaxing / draining / modeling essential oils, all three types! The purposes are slightly different so you can pick based on your condition, apparently. It's not just about the hair at a salon — getting this kind of aroma care too kind of feels like a nice little refresh~~

Choosing level 6 gray coverage on the L'Oréal color chart

After the cut, she also gave a detailed consultation on the dye color. My mom regularly does self dye at home because of gray hair. But since her natural hair color is brown, it's important for the color to blend as naturally as possible with the existing hair, right? So first she held the color chart directly against her hair to check the current hair color level!

As you can see in the photos, she compared the L'Oréal Professionnel color chart shade by shade, and level 6 matched my mom's hair the most naturally, so we went with level 6. For hair like my mom's that's been getting gray coverage dye continuously, she said it's important to match the color so the roots and the previously dyed section don't look disconnected~

Adding the scalp-safe care clinic at Demon Hair

Since my mom dyes over gray hair pretty often, we added a scalp-safe care clinic this time too! Manager Taeyeon didn't even suggest it — my mom has a somewhat sensitive scalp, so we asked about it ourselves.

Since dye touches the scalp directly during the process... getting a good color result matters, but I'm also kind of worried about whether the scalp gets too irritated during the treatment! So she checked the scalp condition more carefully and did the scalp care alongside it so the treatment could be a bit more comfortable.

How did the level 6 gray coverage dye turn out?

And the result!! We went with color 6 like I mentioned earlier — usually the roots and ends differ slightly in color, so it was matched to the color at the ends. It wasn't too bright, but it also wasn't too dark of a brown — indoors it looked calm, and in natural light it showed a subtle brown tone, exactly what I wanted!

We originally went in for a perm but came out with a dye job instead, and I'm happy that it actually kept the existing curl alive and cleaned up the gray neatly haha.
