Sinchon Station Chinese restaurant date: shumai and knife-cut noodles

In short

Cheonghwaweon Sinchon is a knife-cut noodle and dim sum Chinese restaurant a 3 to 5 minute walk from Sinchon Station in Seodaemun, Seoul. The writer ordered three dishes to share — shumai (steamed pork dumplings), guobaorou (crispy sweet and sour pork) and beef knife-cut noodles — one dim sum, one fried dish and one noodle, and the three textures made it fun to switch between bites. Cheonghwaweon Sinchon is a good pick for a Sinchon date or a meal shared with friends.

Interior of Cheonghwaweon with Chinese-region vibe

The moment you walk in, the interior has such a Chinese-region vibe that it almost felt like I was traveling somewhere else haha 😆

What we ordered at Cheonghwaweon: shumai, guobaorou and beef knife-cut noodles

One dim sum, one fried dish, one noodle — isn't that a pretty solid combo?! 🤭✨

🥟 Shumai: plump, bouncy steamed dumplings

The shumai came out first!

The first dish served, Cheonghwaweon shumai

The yellow wrapper was packed with filling, topped with tiny popping flying fish roe — so cute just to look at haha 💛

One bite in, I could really feel the shrimp's bouncy texture, and the wrapper wasn't too thick so the filling's flavor came through even more. Eating it warm, it was moist and springy all at once ✨

If you like dim sum, definitely order the Cheonghwaweon shumai too! They're perfect bite-sized pieces, so we polished them off while waiting for the main dishes… 🤣

🍖 Guobaorou: crispy, sweet fried pork

The moment the guobaorou arrived, that savory fried smell grabbed all the attention haha

Freshly served guobaorou at Cheonghwaweon

The outside was crispy while the meat inside was chewy and tender! The sweet-and-sour sauce was applied lightly, not overly sweet or sour, so I kept reaching for more 😋

It wasn't drenched in sauce, so it stayed relatively crispy until the last bite, and pairing it with sprouts here and there added a refreshing note that cut through any greasiness 🌱

A bite of sweet guobaorou followed by a sip of rich beef knife-cut noodle broth… that combo is just unbeatable!!! (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و ❤️

🍜 Beef knife-cut noodles: the filling dish of the three

And of course, you can't skip Cheonghwaweon's signature dish: beef knife-cut noodles!

Cheonghwaweon's signature beef knife-cut noodles

Unlike regular noodles, the wide, irregularly shaped knife-cut noodle strands have their own charm.

The thicker parts were chewy, and the thinner parts soaked up the broth nicely, so even within one bite there was a range of textures ✨ The broth had a deep beefy flavor, but the finish wasn't too greasy, so my spoon kept going back in. The beef pieces were generous too, so eating it with the noodles felt properly filling!

Slurping the chewy noodles, then a spoonful of broth, then a piece of guobaorou in between — my mouth never got a break haha 🤣 If you usually like beef noodles or chewy noodles, I fully recommend the beef knife-cut noodles 🤎

⭐ Verdict: is Cheonghwaweon Sinchon good for a date or a group meal?

Cheonghwaweon, a well-known Sinchon spot, let us enjoy a variety of Chinese dishes at once, from shumai to guobaorou to beef knife-cut noodles — a great place to visit as a group!
