After-work drink with a sundae-guk set in Sinchon: Pyeongando Sikdang
In short
Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is a 24-hour sundae-guk (Korean blood sausage soup) restaurant on Yonsei-ro 4-gil in Seodaemun, Seoul, open every day of the year. After finishing work in Sinchon, the writer ordered the Pyeongando sundae-guk set as a solo drinking meal and found springy sundae, pyeonyuk (sliced boiled pork) that tasted like jokbal, and a broth rich enough to need no extra seasoning. Pyeongando Sikdang is an easy Sinchon Station stop at any hour, whether for a drink after work or a hangover cure afterwards.

One day after finishing work in Sinchon, there was busking going on in the plaza near U-Plex. I stood there listening for a bit, and even though I was tired, I somehow didn't feel like going straight home — I just wanted sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) with a shot of soju!
So I went looking, and found a place with good food, friendly staff, and 24-hour opening hours — a Sinchon sundae-guk spot open around the clock. That's Pyeongando Sikdang.

Where is Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch, and when is it open?
Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is at 12 Yonsero 4-gil, 1st floor, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, and it's open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. It's close to Sinchon Station, so it's convenient to swing by after work or in the middle of the night.

Being a 24-hour Sinchon Station restaurant, it looked like a perfect spot to grab a hangover cure after drinking, too!
What's on the menu at Pyeongando Sikdang?
The menu at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch ranges from solo-dining favorites like sundae-guk, mandu-guk (dumpling soup), naejang-tang (offal soup), seolleongtang (ox bone soup), and yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) to group-friendly drinking food like gamjatang (pork bone stew), sundae stir-fry, and sundae hot pot.

They also sell set menus that come with pyeonyuk (sliced boiled meat) and offal — although those weren't available as standalone dishes on this visit!
Clean, friendly dining room
The inside of Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch was kept spotless. Since it's a popular spot with university students, who tend to be picky about taste, atmosphere, and service, I was impressed to see staff clearing tables the moment customers left.

The staff were also super friendly, so it was easy to ask for anything I needed.
What side dishes come with the set?
The side dishes included kimchi, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and assorted vegetables. Since I ordered sundae-guk, I also got chives to add into the soup!

The kimchi wasn't too spicy or too sour — a flavor everyone could like!
The Pyeongando sundae-guk set: springy sundae and jokbal-flavored pyeonyuk
Among the set menus that come with sundae-guk, I ordered the Pyeongando Sundae-guk Set. Above all, those bouncy, springy sundae pieces and the crunchy pyeonyuk looked so delicious, haha!

I'd had sundae from a street cart just recently, but the sundae here felt totally different from that, haha. It didn't fall apart or crumble even when dipped in ssamjang (dipping sauce) — it had that bouncy, springy texture. It was moist and savory, too, making for a great set to pair with drinks!

And this pyeonyuk had an unusual color from the start — one bite in, and I could taste jokbal (pig's trotters)! It had a different charm from the usual savory pyeonyuk, and it made me want to come back with a group and order a full plate to really dig in.

A sundae-guk broth rich enough without extra seasoning
After starting my solo drinking session with the pyeonyuk and sundae, once I started craving the soup, I took a spoonful of the sundae-guk — and it was rich and deep, yet clean, even without adding any seasoning myself!
There were a few female students dining solo nearby too, and it made me think: to win over customers like that, the food really has to taste this good, haha.

I also liked how generously packed it was with sundae, head meat, and other cuts. Scooping up a random spoonful and getting a mix of different textures and flavors from those cuts is something you can only get with sundae-guk, haha.

After enjoying the original flavor for a while, I generously added chives, perilla seed powder, and black pepper, and enjoyed this Sinchon sundae-guk favorite without holding back. The deep broth flavor blended beautifully with the pepper and perilla powder, creating a depth different from bone broth — really charming!

Worth returning to this 24-hour Sinchon sundae-guk restaurant?
It was a wonderful Sinchon sundae-guk restaurant, great even with just the side dishes. Watching other tables order all sorts of different dishes beyond sundae-guk made me think this is a Sinchon spot where everything is tasty. A group of foreigners came in too, and seeing them eat away without saying a word, completely absorbed, made me feel oddly happy, haha.
