Yeouido Asian restaurant lunch without The Hyundai wait: Jeongyun Kitchen

In short

Jeongyun Kitchen is an Asian restaurant near Yeouinaru Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. On a return visit, I had the Singapore chicken rice half-and-half, sesame chicken noodles, and cucumber muchim in its spacious, calming dining room. Jeongyun Kitchen is a polished lunch escape from The Hyundai Seoul queues.

Whenever I go shopping or out for the day at The Hyundai Seoul, the most stressful part once mealtime rolls around is the waiting, right? From the basement restaurant area to the upper floors, everywhere means putting your name down and waiting ages, so I’m exhausted before I’ve even started eating.

So these days, rather than eating inside The Hyundai, I tend to have a much more comfortable and neatly presented meal nearby. I revisited Jeongyun Kitchen because it offers an exotic but universally appealing meal, and I’m sharing my honest review.

A great lunch spot near The Hyundai Seoul

Jeongyun Kitchen dining space near Yeouinaru Station

Jeongyun Kitchen is near Yeouinaru Station, an easy walk from The Hyundai Seoul, so it is very accessible. As soon as you step inside, the clean, charming interior catches your eye; overall, it feels calm and cozy.

Unlike a crowded department-store dining floor, the tables are nicely spaced out, so you can focus on your meal comfortably even at busy times. With a thoughtful mix of two- and four-person tables, it is an easygoing spot for Yeouido office workers dining alone or anyone looking for a solo-meal place near Yeouinaru Station.

Jeongyun Kitchen’s signature Singapore chicken rice half-and-half

The signature Asian dish—and something I have to order on every visit—is the Singapore chicken rice. This time, I ordered the half-and-half option, which lets you try both the simply poached chicken breast and chicken.

The moist, sous-vide-style poached chicken breast had such a lovely soft bite. The accompanying chicken was coated beautifully in a subtly sweet and savory sauce, making it absolutely perfect with rice.

Put a piece of tender chicken on the flavorful aromatic rice and add the house sauce, and the combination is just so good. If you like cilantro, definitely add some on top! I came back because I couldn’t forget this flavor, haha.

For anyone worn out by the lunch queues at The Hyundai, this could be the perfect meal.

Fresh, nutty sesame chicken noodles you keep reaching for

After the rice dishes, my noodle recommendation is the sesame chicken noodles. Thin egg noodles in a house sesame sauce came generously topped with tender chicken chashu.

After mixing the noodles well with the sauce and taking a bite, the nutty sesame flavor blended with the bright, sweet-and-tangy sauce for a really fresh taste. It was not greasy or overly heavy, so it felt just right for a light, tidy lunch. The thin, springy egg noodles were fun to chew, too—it was the kind of dish that had me clearing every last bite.

The crunchy cucumber muchim you have to order

And this cucumber muchim (seasoned cucumber salad) is the real must-not-miss item at Jeongyun Kitchen. Crisp cucumber is lightly dressed in a special sauce that is tangy, spicy, and sweet—a true standout among the side dishes.

A bite of this cucumber muchim between the chicken rice or noodles resets your palate so nicely. Its spicy freshness is seriously the key!

I loved the combination of cilantro’s distinctive aroma and the tangy cucumber sauce so much that I strongly recommend adding it as a side whenever you visit.

Asian lunch enjoyed at Jeongyun Kitchen

Avoiding the fierce lunch queues at The Hyundai and enjoying a neat, distinctive meal in a comfortable space made this return visit a huge success, too. The food and atmosphere were great, and the friendly service made the whole meal feel even better.
