Jeju Aewol restaurant for tripe soup and squid pancake: Aewol Eomma

A place I'd wanted to visit for three years after a friend recommended it as their regular spot — this time I made it my first meal on a Jeju trip.

Getting to Aewol Eomma and what the restaurant feels like inside

It's a local favorite that pairs well with a trip to Handam, Aewol Beach, Geumo Oreum, Saebyeol Oreum, or Sanshirando Ranch.

I saved this place on Naver Maps 2-3 years ago when it was recommended, and it still shows up as 'Hanjildongne' — but in February 2026 the name changed to 'Aewol Eomma'! Hanjildongne = Aewol Eomma, same restaurant, just so you know!

It took less than 30 minutes to get here from a rental car place near Jeju Airport. The pretty mint-colored sign really stood out from a distance.

We parked right in front of the restaurant — that's fine to do, but there's also a spacious private parking lot.

Big floor-to-ceiling windows right at the entrance let in great light. Since they're only open from morning through early afternoon, make sure to check the hours before you visit!

The interior is clean white and wood tones. There are lots of tables, so it'd work well for a big family trip lunch or a large group meal. It's a spot locals love, and since it happened to be right before Chuseok when locals were out tending ancestral graves, we got to eat in a relaxed, uncrowded space — which was honestly a bonus haha.

They also have high chairs, great for families with kids. There are outlets under the seats too, handy for charging your phone while you eat.

Wet wipes, tissues, and aprons were all neatly arranged — you could tell they paid attention to the details.

Aewol Eomma menu and prices, and what a regular recommends

Aewol Eomma's menu includes Aewol Eomma hangover soup for ₩15,000, tripe soup for ₩12,000, squid pancake for ₩10,000, and more. My friend, a regular who's tried everything, recommended the beef radish soup, tripe soup, and squid pancake.

For a first visit, she told us to try the signature Aewol Eomma hangover soup and the tripe soup. We ordered the squid pancake alongside those.

The side dishes came out first — kimchi, diced radish kimchi, seaweed salad, and more, generously filled. And you could immediately tell the side dish plates and bowls weren't picked carelessly.

Honest review of Aewol Eomma's hangover soup, tripe soup and squid pancake

The hangover soup came in an actual Le Creuset cast iron pot..! Thanks to that, it stayed warm all the way to the last bite.

Just like I'd heard, each bowl was seriously enough for two people. Both had their own charm, so rather than picking a winner, I'd say just go with whichever you're craving that day. I picked the tripe soup as my top choice, my sister went with the Aewol Eomma hangover soup.

Aewol Eomma hangover soup (15,000 won)

The Aewol Eomma hangover soup has both tripe and brisket in it, so it has more of a meaty aroma than the tripe soup.

The portion is honestly ridiculous. In Seoul, I bet a bowl like this would cost over ₩20,000.

The brisket dipped in the sauce with bean sprouts and rice is seriously delicious.

Tripe soup at Aewol Eomma (12,000 won)

The tripe soup broth was a bit richer. I mixed the rice right into the soup broth and ate every last bit, filling and satisfying to the end.

It's packed with tripe, beef tripe, and beef tendon-type cuts. There wasn't any off smell at all.

Hanchi jeon, the squid pancake at Aewol Eomma (10,000 won)

It was my first time trying squid pancake, so I was curious, and it hit the spot perfectly. The squid is finely julienned and fried up to a nice golden color.

The texture was chewy and different from anything else — the soup is hot and heavy, so having the squid pancake alongside it was just right.

It also went really well dipped lightly in the soup's sauce, so good. The soup portions were already huge and we were full, but we still cleaned off the squid pancake.

They even gave us cool watermelon for dessert, ending things on a great note. The staff were kind and attentive too, so we could eat comfortably — after one bowl, you understand exactly why the locals love this place. A solid, filling meal I'd recommend as a hidden gem to anyone looking for a breakfast or lunch spot in Aewol.
