Today I went out with my mom for a weekend outing and stopped by 'Manmok,' known as an eel rice bowl specialist near Seonleung Station! I love eel so much haha,,😊

📍 Manmok location info

Manmok is 273m from Seonleung Station exit 2. It was close enough from the station to walk easily. For anyone hunting for a lunch spot near Daechi-dong, this area around Seonleung Station is worth adding to your list too — especially if you're after a Japanese rice bowl place! I used to commute near Seonleung Station once upon a time.. brought back a lot of old memories haha

According to the restaurant's own description, it's 'a Japanese restaurant specializing in eel rice bowls that presents the pure flavor of eel neatly.'

Gochang freshwater eel grilled Kanto-style

They use only Gochang freshwater eel, considered one of Korea's best eel-producing regions, and say the eel is thoroughly managed from sourcing to selection, giving it a clean, deep flavor without any fishy smell.

Sign introducing Manmok's eel origin and cooking method

Eel cooking methods are divided into Kanto-style, Kansai-style, and Nagoya-style, and Manmok sticks with the Kanto style that brings out texture and cleanness. They grill the eel once, steam it, then brush on a secret sauce and grill it twice more over charcoal, cutting down the oiliness while keeping only the softness and deep flavor — and it really was delicious (so good).

My mom and I each ordered 'one eel rice bowl (₩39,000).' The eel went down clean without any greasiness, so I felt no heaviness even after eating. Sharing it quietly with my mom made it even better 👍

A glass of Balvenie highball at Manmok

The highlight of the day was the Balvenie highball! My mom and I each had a glass, and it paired really well with the eel rice bowl. A bite of the bowl, then a sip of the highball, cleared my palate so nicely that I kept reaching for it.

The highball enjoyed alongside the eel rice bowl

They also had sancho pepper you could sprinkle on. I usually like sancho, so I shook it on generously, and it brought out so much more umami that I was really satisfied. If you like sancho, definitely sprinkle some on!

Manmok's atmosphere: parents, team dinners and solo lunches

The space had a refined wood interior with calm lighting and just the right amount of empty space, without being excessive. That makes it a place where you can eat quietly and comfortably. I'd recommend it for dates, anniversaries, meals with parents, or important occasions to host someone. My mom also liked it, saying the atmosphere felt calm and nice.

This atmosphere could also be useful for anyone looking into a Seonleung Station spot for a team dinner. They said group reservations are possible, so if you're coming with a larger group, it's worth inquiring ahead.

Also, while I went with my mom, there were actually people eating alone there too. Since it's a quiet atmosphere, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a solo dining spot near Seonleung in Gangnam :)

I got to enjoy the pure flavor of eel cleanly, and with the Balvenie highball and sancho pepper added in, this weekend lunch spent quietly with my mom became even more special.
