Today I visited Yukdaejang, a well-known spot in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan. As the weather got a bit chillier, I started craving something spicy and warm — and for that, yukgaejang (spicy beef and vegetable soup) is the answer.

I've started working out and watching what I eat, so I wanted to avoid anything too heavy — this fit the bill perfectly. From the parking to the atmosphere, the food, and the friendly service, it was an all-around satisfying meal.

Is parking easy at Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch?
Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch shares a large parking lot with several other restaurants, so you can just park wherever's open. What I liked most was how spacious the lot was — nothing kills the mood before a meal like struggling to find parking, so having plenty of room was a relief.

Inside the restaurant during the late lunch hours
Inside, Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch is bigger and cleaner than it looks from outside. The tables aren't cramped, and the whole place felt well-kept. It has a friendly, comfortable vibe that would work well for a family meal or a simple lunch with a group. Going for a late lunch meant it was nice and quiet too.

What's on the menu, and what we ordered
Beyond yukgaejang, there's naengmyeon (cold noodles), dumplings, seolleongtang (ox bone soup), mandu-guk (dumpling soup), hot pot, and various noodle add-ins — plenty of kid-friendly options too, so it'd work well for a family outing. We ordered the old-style traditional yukgaejang and the mini garib-sal bossam platter. I wanted the bossam and bibim naengmyeon set too, but since this place is known for yukgaejang, I figured I should try the signature dish :)

The basic banchan (side dishes) arrived, and the seokbakji (diced white radish kimchi) was so good. Perfectly fermented and well-seasoned — a good soup restaurant really does need good seokbakji. This is the kind of seokbakji that can polish off a whole bowl of rice on its own.

Our order arrived — and a full bowl of rice too 🤤

Old-style traditional yukgaejang: glass noodles and extra spice
Yukdaejang's old-style traditional yukgaejang was loaded with the glass noodles I love — you can even add extra. As a kid I used to pick out all the green onions, but now I'm old enough to appreciate their sweetness — scooping them up together with the meat is delicious. Since I'd been sticking to diet food, I was craving something spicy and warm, and this totally hit the spot. I mixed in a bowl of rice and finished it off in no time. You can even ask for extra spice — this would make a great hangover soup too.

Watching what you eat? The mini garib-sal bossam platter
The dish that surprised me the most was the garib-sal bossam mini platter. Since I'm watching my diet after working out, I wanted mostly meat rather than a huge portion, so I went with the mini bossam — and it was satisfying without feeling like too much.

The bossam (boiled pork) was tender with no gamey smell, and the real highlight was the sweet, savory bossam kimchi — I should have taken a photo of just the kimchi. My sibling kept saying how good it was and trying to figure out the seasoning. It has a sweetness along with the nutty flavor of sesame oil. Pairing it with the alba napa cabbage, peppers, garlic, and chives that came alongside made it even better. Dieting doesn't mean you have to eat only bland food 😄 This was a great choice when you want to eat well in moderate portions while still thinking about nutrition.

There's a self-service corner, so I grabbed some extra seokbakji. The self-service area was spotless and orderly — they clearly pay close attention to hygiene.
Final verdict on Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch
Yukdaejang, a well-known yukgaejang restaurant in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan, gave me an all-around satisfying meal — easy parking, a spacious and clean dining room, and good food. If you're watching your diet after a workout like me but still want to enjoy a tasty meal now and then, I'd recommend trying the mini bossam. If you're looking for a simple, comfortable place to eat with family or coworkers in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan, it's worth a visit. The wide menu selection was a nice plus too. Next time I'll have to try the bossam and bibim naengmyeon set. Thanks for the meal!
