Sangok-dong galbijjim restaurant, ₩35,000 for two: Haemokjeong

I was looking for a good restaurant in Sangok-dong, Bupyeong, and ended up visiting Haemokjeong Bupyeong Branch (해목정 부평점) with a friend.

That day I was craving something spicy and filling rather than seafood, so I picked the spicy braised pork ribs.

Spicy braised pork ribs, 35,000 won for two: how did they taste?

What we ordered was the spicy braised pork ribs. At ₩35,000 for two people, it's pork ribs stir-fried with Haemokjeong's special sauce.

As soon as it arrived, the ribs coated evenly in thick sauce looked delicious. True to its name, it was definitely spicy, but not spicy for spiciness's sake — the sweetness blended in too, making it the kind of dish you could keep eating without feeling overwhelmed.

The sauce was generously mixed throughout, so every piece of rib I picked up had plenty of flavor — never bland.

Were the pork ribs tender, and did they go with rice?

With braised ribs, how tender the meat is really matters.

Picking the meat up with chopsticks, it wasn't tough at all — it chewed soft and easy. The sauce wasn't just coating the surface either; it blended naturally into the meat in a way that made me want rice.

Eating together with my friend, taking a bite of rib and then some rice made the spicy sauce taste even better. My friend, who loves spicy food, said the sauce flavor was solid and ate well, and I found myself alternating between ribs and rice until the bowl was empty before I knew it. Just from the name, I expected it to be pretty intense, but the sweetness and spiciness together made it a great meal choice.

Is one dish enough for two people at Haemokjeong?

Spicy food can sometimes feel overwhelming after a while, but Haemokjeong struck a good balance between spicy and sweet, so it stayed delicious all the way to the end.

What I also liked was that sharing one order of spicy braised pork ribs between the two of us was filling enough without ordering multiple dishes. The ribs themselves were chunky and the sauce flavor was distinct, so there was real enjoyment in eating each piece slowly.

I enjoyed it fully, sometimes coating a piece of meat well in sauce, sometimes eating it together with rice.
