Sinnonhyeon snack restaurant with potato salad tteokbokki: Deokjane
In short
Deokjane Bangatgan is a garaetteok (rod-shaped rice cake) tteokbokki snack restaurant a 3-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 7 in Seocho, Seoul, tucked behind Kyobo Tower. Two people ordered tteokbokki, sundae (Korean blood sausage), eomuk (fish cake) and mul-tteok (rice cake in broth) and still paid under 10,000 won, and the potato salad spooned over the tteokbokki was the kick that tamed the heat. For old-school neighborhood tteokbokki, Deokjane Bangatgan is the place.

Deokjane Bangatgan, a tteokbokki spot near Sinnonhyeon Station, keeps the exact flavor of old-school neighborhood tteokbokki alive.

If it's a tteokbokki place, the rice cakes better be good — and Deokjane Bangatgan makes its tteokbokki with garaetteok (long cylindrical rice cake). This is basically what a PhD in tteokbokki studies would order. If you want both nostalgia and flavor, you have to visit.

Where is Deokjane Bangatgan, and how much does it cost?
Deokjane Bangatgan, this tteokbokki spot near Sinnonhyeon Station, is about a 3-minute walk from Exit 7. It sits right behind Kyobo Tower.

Honestly affordable prices — these days you barely see food under ₩10,000 anywhere. But apparently even that can't stand up to the nation's favorite dish, tteokbokki (is that too old-fashioned of me, haha). You really can order plenty and still stay under ₩10,000! Ordering is done via kiosk.

Inside Deokjane Bangatgan: the room and the self-serve bar
Inside, Deokjane Bangatgan looks exactly like a proper snack restaurant should — clean and bright. Even with a wait, turnover is quick since it's a snack menu.

Tableware, small plates and side dishes are all self-serve! Various sauces and pickled radish are at the self-serve bar too.
What two people ordered for under 10,000 won
Tteokbokki, sundae, eomuk, mul-tteok

Order this much for two people and you'll be stuffed. The portions are huge yet cheap — it's the kind of magic that makes you keep adding more...
My mouth is watering just writing this... Deokjane Bangatgan, this tteokbokki spot near Sinnonhyeon Station.

The tteokbokki and its potato salad topping
First, the main event — tteokbokki! If you love thick, chewy rice cakes, this is the look and style you'll dive straight into. The eomuk is thick too, so the texture is no joke.

They top the tteokbokki with this potato salad, and that's the real kick. The tteokbokki runs on the spicy side, so eating it with the potato salad tones down the heat and tastes great. Thick rice cakes drenched in glossy red sauce, topped with potato salad for extra softness — that's the signature.

Mul-tteok and the complimentary eomuk broth
The mul-tteok was truly chewy through and through. They also give you a free piece of eomuk, which tastes amazing with the broth. I always wanted freshly steamed rice cake, and this mul-tteok gives off a similar texture.

Thick-cut eomuk skewers
Eomuk you'd miss if it were left out. Soaking in hot broth gives it that street-cart feel. It's thick enough to enjoy dipped in tteokbokki sauce or eaten on its own.

Sundae filled with glass noodles
Sundae is a must-order, no question. It wouldn't feel right without the glass noodles inside!

The tteokbokki here — this tteokbokki near Sinnonhyeon Station — comes out as whole garaetteok that you cut yourself with scissors. The sauce is so abundant it's practically a soup, and dipping the sundae into it is next-level. Spicy and sweet, the kind of flavor that keeps you going back for more.

The eomuk has such a great bite! Dip it heavily in the sauce and it tastes exactly like the tteokbokki I used to buy for ₩300 in a little cup as a kid.

If it gets too spicy, just reach for more eomuk. This isn't the thin, cheap kind — it's thick with real bite. Such great value for the price, honestly.

The best combination to order at Deokjane Bangatgan
Eating the chewy rice cake together with the soft sundae. That's the real charm of Korean snack food!!!!

Especially with the potato salad — the spice mellows out and it becomes wonderfully soft, so I really recommend that combo. There's a reason they serve potato salad alongside it!!!

And then the mul-tteok, the ultimate in chewiness... this is exactly the charm of a great rice cake restaurant!!!!!!

Because the garaetteok is freshly made every morning, the rice cake is incredibly chewy. The spicy, thick sauce hits the perfect concentration. The more you eat, the more you fall for this tteokbokki near Sinnonhyeon Station. If you want a simple, great-value meal, I recommend Deokjane Bangatgan!
