Spicy pork skin platter for two at Wanbeoljip, Kyungsung Univ. Busan

In short

Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant on the 2nd floor at 36 Yongso-ro 13beon-gil, Nam-gu, Busan, where the kitchen grills all the meat and brings it out ready to eat. We ordered the Wanbeol platter for two with samgyeopsal (pork belly) and spicy pork skin, served with a yuja makgeolli aperitif, and with no grill on the table there was no smoky clothes and no tong duty. Wanbeoljip is an easy pick for a date or a dinner with friends on a night when grilling feels like too much work.

Today I went to Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch, which I found while looking for somewhere to eat dinner near Kyungsung University in Busan :) The name itself is a little unusual haha — this is a pork belly restaurant that works on the 'wanbeol' system, meaning the meat comes fully grilled straight from the kitchen.

Perfect for people who want to eat meat but can't be bothered grilling it themselves, or who hate their clothes smelling like smoke afterward! The brand's own intro was pretty funny, and visiting in person, the vibe was noticeably different from a typical BBQ place too. Let me walk you through it :)

Where is Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch, and when is it open?

Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch is on the 2nd floor of 36 Yongso-ro 13beon-gil, Nam-gu, Busan. It's open 17:00–23:00, closed every Sunday.

It's a quick walk from Kyungsung University·Pukyong National University Station, so it wasn't hard to find. That area is packed with restaurants and bars, so it's also a great spot for a second round afterward haha. And since it's so close to the station, it's convenient even without a car!

If you're looking for a Busan Kyungsung University restaurant or a Kyungsung University BBQ spot, this one at least scores well on accessibility.

Wanbeoljip's brand introduction display

Reading Wanbeoljip's brand intro cracked me up right from the start haha.

That long-awaited first date. You dress up nicely, spritz on some perfume, and head to a fancy pork belly place... but then oil splatters while you're grilling, you get smoked out, and by the time you leave, your clothes reek of pork belly haha. You went out for a nice meal and both walk out smelling like a human smokehouse.

Wanbeoljip apparently started precisely to fix that kind of BBQ-restaurant hassle.

Explanation of the wanbeol kitchen-grilled system

True to its name, this is the 'wanbeol' system — the meat comes fully grilled from the kitchen! No grilling at your own table means less worry about oil splatters, and no standing over smoke with tongs, flipping constantly.

Menu focused on pork belly and pork skin

It just comes out, you just eat it haha. No one person stuck grilling the whole date, no junior staffer forced to grab the tongs at a work dinner. The menu also isn't stretched thin across dozens of dishes — it's focused on samgyeopsal (pork belly) and pork skin, and the meat is grilled in a consistent way in the kitchen every time.

Introduction to Wanbeoljip as a no-grilling BBQ restaurant

Want meat but hate the smell, and find grilling even more annoying? This place was clearly made for exactly that person :)

Inside Wanbeoljip: tables with no grill, no smoke, no tongs

Wanbeoljip's exterior already feels different from a typical BBQ restaurant. Very much a Busan Kyungsung University restaurant vibe, right?

Brick-and-concrete exterior of Wanbeoljip

It's a vintage-looking mix of brick and concrete — no flashy oversized sign, just a quietly stylish exterior.

Stairs leading up to the 2nd-floor entrance

At first glance you might wonder, is this really a BBQ place? haha. Follow the entrance stairs up to the 2nd floor and you'll find Wanbeoljip.

The interior carries the same mood as outside. Brick, exposed concrete, dark wood tables, and warm lighting give it a feel that's closer to a pub than a typical BBQ restaurant.

Seating ranges from bar seats to tables for 3–4, so it looked equally good for a date or for a drink and hangout with friends.

Dining hall with bar seats and tables

And the first difference you notice walking in: no grills on the tables. Since all the meat comes already grilled, the tables themselves stay clean, and the whole space feels far more tidy than a typical BBQ restaurant.

I got why the brand calls itself a good BBQ spot for dates haha. If you're looking for a Busan Kyungsung University BBQ restaurant and want a calmer atmosphere rather than the usual noisy hustle, this is a solid choice.

Wanbeoljip menu and prices: sets from 35,500 won for 500g

Wanbeoljip Kyungsung University Branch's SET menu comes in Small (500g, ₩35,500), Medium (700g, ₩50,500), and Large (900g, ₩65,500). Pick based on your group size or appetite, and after ordering a set you can also add extra meat à la carte.

Looking at the menu, it's clear Wanbeoljip is all about the meat — rather than piling on tons of dishes, it's built cleanly around the main cuts. For a first visit, the SET menu is the easiest choice.

If meat alone feels like it needs company, there's a decent range of sides too: perilla oil cold noodles, kimchi rolled cold noodles, doenjang risotto, doenjang jjigae, steamed egg, and fried rice — good for mixing in as you go.

Wanbeoljip's set menu and side dish board

Because the kitchen grills your order fresh, they let you know it can take about 15 minutes after ordering. A bit of a wait, but once the food arrives? You just eat haha. No time spent heating up a grill, laying meat down, and flipping it — which actually makes the meal itself feel much more relaxed.

The Wanbeol platter for two: pork belly and spicy pork skin

Table set with food but no grill

We ordered the Wanbeol Full Platter for two, choosing samgyeopsal (pork belly) and spicy-marinated pork skin. As soon as we ordered, a yuja makgeolli (citron rice wine) aperitif showed up! The citron aroma paired really nicely with the makgeolli — you could tell the owner had good taste!!

After a short wait, exactly as advertised — a platter piled with already-grilled meat arrives haha.

Normally at a BBQ place, you'd have to heat up the grill, lay the meat down piece by piece, and someone has to grab the tongs and start grilling.

The Wanbeol Full Platter for two, already grilled

Here, none of that — you can just dig in the moment it arrives, which was genuinely convenient.

The samgyeopsal comes cut into bite-size pieces, grilled to a nice golden brown — crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside.

The pork skin comes coated in sauce and looks glossy from the get-go haha — chewy texture with a slightly sweet marinade, good to alternate with the pork belly.

The accompaniments are pretty generous too — bracken fern and chives come alongside, with the fern seasoned and stir-fried, and the chives served raw.

Stir-fried fern and raw chives on the side

Piling fern on top of the pork belly, with chives mixed in here and there, made it way more enjoyable than just eating meat on repeat.

A bite of pork belly topped with fern

Tortillas came alongside the meat too. With everything from meat to sides arriving on one big platter, it looks generous, and best of all...

No awkward staring contest over who grabs the tongs haha. Once the meat's out, everyone just starts eating at the same time. Done!

A full spread of Wanbeoljip's meat platter

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) alone was good enough to finish a whole bowl of rice with. No conversation getting cut off because someone's busy grilling — the ease of the whole meal felt like Wanbeoljip's biggest strength. Officially a Busan Kyungsung University BBQ restaurant I'd recommend!!

Worth it on a night you want pork but not the grilling

Just the fact that Wanbeoljip literally grills all your meat before serving it made it a memorable spot. Normally at a BBQ place, someone's stuck holding tongs the whole time, and you leave reeking of meat haha.

I used to think that was just how it worked, but here, you just eat as soon as it's out, which was genuinely convenient. The platter came loaded with samgyeopsal, spicy pork skin, fern, and chives, so there was plenty of fun mixing and matching too.

Doenjang jjigae and rice to finish the meal

It seems especially suited to a date or a hangout with friends where you'd rather chat comfortably than be rushed around grilling. If you're hunting for a Busan Kyungsung University restaurant or Kyungsung University BBQ spot, it's worth a visit!

Next time I'm craving meat near Kyungsung University and thinking 'I really don't want to grill today' haha, Wanbeoljip is definitely coming to mind :)
