Gongdeok café for smile madeleines after school: Fluffy Bake Shop

Gongdeok is so familiar to me because it is close to where I used to live, haha. So whenever I have a reason to come this way after a long time, it brings back memories and makes me happy. This time, I was in my old neighborhood again and heard there was a great dessert spot in Gongdeok. I simply couldn’t pass it by!

It is Fluffy Bake Shop. If you love baked treats such as madeleines, financiers, and canelés, your eyes will be in for a treat the moment you walk in.

Everything looked so cute, and after trying them myself, I was happy with the flavor too, so I wanted to introduce it to anyone looking for a good café around Gongdeok Station. :)

When I arrived at Fluffy Bake Shop, the exterior was so neat right from the start. You know how pretty dessert shops give you a feeling from the outside these days, haha. I saw the storefront and went in full of anticipation.

Oh my... how could this shop be filled with so many adorable desserts! The moment I saw the display, I spent ages wondering what to choose, hahaha.

There was a wide selection, from madeleines and financiers to canelés, and every design was truly cute. There were especially lots of bite-size baked treats that are easy to eat, so it seemed like it would be fun to choose several kinds and taste them one by one. Buying one big cake is nice too, but I also love bringing home a variety of little desserts like this.

And one thought kept coming to me as I looked around Fluffy Bake Shop: this would be such a great place to visit when you need a gift. The desserts themselves are pretty and varied enough to select according to someone’s taste, and above all, even the gift boxes are incredibly cute.

Since desserts like madeleines and financiers are easy to pick up and eat individually, they would be great to bring to the office or a gathering. They would also be perfect as a light dessert gift when visiting a friend’s home! I think anyone who cares about pretty packaging would be pleased. I looked over everything and picked out a few things too.

The one I put in my basket as soon as I spotted it was the smile madeleine! I mean, isn’t this design just too cute? Hahaha. The second I saw it, I thought of my daughters and knew I had to buy it. Kids care about flavor too, but first their hearts are captured by how something looks—and these were smiling faces... I could already picture how much they would love them as an after-school snack, haha. And Fluffy Bake Shop is not takeout-only; there are also seats inside where you can stay and eat.

There is a drink menu as well, so it looked like a nice place to relax with a coffee and a dessert. I took mine out that day because it was time to pick up the kids, but next time I would like to sit down with a cup of coffee.

All right, I packed everything up nicely and came home.

And as soon as my daughters got home from school, I brought them out. Just as I had expected! The smile madeleines were a huge hit, hahaha.

They stared at the cute faces for a while, loved them so much, and started eating right away. They were a comfortable size for children to hold, and the madeleines were soft, so they were great to pack as a snack. If they were only pretty, that might have been a little disappointing, but they tasted good too—so Mom was happy as well! We tried the rest of the madeleines and financiers together, and the baked treats were good overall, so they disappeared quickly one by one, haha.

And after taking care of the kids, I went straight for the Earl Grey canelé!

Canelés are one of my all-time favorite desserts, so whenever I see one, I usually buy one to try. I ate Fluffy Bake Shop’s Earl Grey canelé with high expectations. Oh, this is delicious. The outside had that distinctive crisp canelé texture, while the inside was moist and soft—exactly that crisp-outside, soft-inside feeling I love! The Earl Grey fragrance came through gently too, giving it a different charm from an ordinary canelé. The lightly crisp exterior and moist interior created a lovely contrast, and it is a flavor that would go really well with coffee. I am a little picky because I love canelés, but this one satisfied me too, haha.

After trying the madeleines and financiers one by one as well, I realized this was not a place that was only pretty to look at.

Fluffy Bake Shop was a find from my long-awaited return to familiar Gongdeok. Its exterior was neat, and inside it was full of cute baked treats, making me feel happy the moment I entered.

Most of all, I liked that there was such a variety—madeleines, financiers, canelés, and more—so you can pick exactly what you want, one by one. My daughters’ top pick was the smile madeleine, and mine was the Earl Grey canelé! The gift boxes are pretty too, making it a nice place to visit when you need a dessert gift. There are seats inside and drinks available, so it would also be nice to stop by as a Gongdeok Station café for a cup of coffee. Pretty looks matter, but flavor matters just as much, and I was happy overall with the madeleines, financiers, and canelés I tried!
