The store is big so it was easy to spot, and if you drive, there's free parking for up to 3 hours in the building's underground lot.

They're open daily from 8:30am to 9pm. No regular closed days, so it's good to visit any time — and they're open as usual even during Seollal and Chuseok holidays!

They also just released a pizza seolgi (pizza-topped rice cake) that's apparently trending on social media, so if you're curious, go check it out haha

A rice cake shop that looks like a café

Stepping inside, Tteokmama Cheongju Gaesin Branch really was a big store~ It felt cleaner and more café-like than your typical neighborhood rice cake shop, and there were even tables where you could sit and rest.

I got excited once the actual rice cake shopping started — the variety was so wide that just browsing one by one was fun haha. These days there's not just traditional rice cakes but plenty that kids would love, sweet ones or dessert-like ones too!

What kinds of rice cakes does Tteokmama sell?

There are familiar traditional rice cakes like baekseolgi (plain steamed rice cake), pat siruteok (red bean layered rice cake), songpyeon, jeolpyeon, and kkultteok (honey-filled rice cake), as well as more unusual fusion rice cakes like castella injeolmi, chocolate injeolmi, Dubai chocolate chapssaltteok, and pizza seolgi — perfect for younger folks who want to eat them like dessert~

Both chapssaltteok and fruit, two things I love — how could that not be delicious? They come in 3, 6, and 4-piece sets at decent prices, so I got two of the 4-piece boxes.

They also sell some famous frozen rice cake products, plus sikhye (sweet rice punch), pumpkin sikhye, and sujeonggwa — good to drink alongside rice cakes. I love sujeonggwa so I grabbed one of those too.

You can also reserve pickup and get free delivery for Tteokmama through Naver Place, so you don't necessarily have to visit the store to get their rice cakes comfortably~ They said if you order at least 3-4 days ahead through Naver reservations, you can get it right on schedule.

I was surprised by the coffee and drink lineup — this place really deserves to be called a rice cake café! Coffee, lattes, smoothies, tea, ades, juices, even patbingsu (red bean shaved ice) — they had it all haha

How the 6,000-won, 4-piece fruit chapssaltteok tastes

Red bean fruit chapssaltteok, 4 pieces for ₩6,000. The 4-piece set includes 2 strawberries, 1 shine muscat, and 1 tangerine. At first I imagined something like fruit mochi with fruit tucked inside the chapssaltteok, but Tteokmama's fruit chapssaltteok actually has the fruit placed on top of the rice cake~

One bite in, and the chewy chapssaltteok with fruit was, as expected, insanely delicious! Chapssaltteok on its own can feel a bit heavy so it's hard to eat more than one, but with fruit added, the rice cake felt lighter and made for a great snack or dessert haha
