I visited Samsin Garosu-gil, a popular restaurant on Garosu-gil in Sinsa. I’d been craving Chinese food for the first time in a while, and unexpectedly ended up having a full Chinese course meal.

Would it work for a group gathering on Garosu-gil?

Samsin Garosu-gil is perfect for a group dinner, too. There are private rooms on the first floor, and as in the photos above, more rooms and several tables on the second floor. The second floor has a much nicer atmosphere!
Of course, the first floor is nice too~ There’s this flashy dragon attached to the lighting on the first floor (?) and it was such an attention-grabber that I had to take a photo,,, They really nailed that classic Chinese-style interior! Anyway, Samsin Garosu-gil also takes reservations, so it’s a great spot for group gatherings and family meals.
The interior is anything but ordinary, right..? It really has the feel of an upscale Chinese restaurant~

What’s in the ₩25,000-per-person Samsin A Course?
There were so many unusual, tempting dishes that I almost ordered several à la carte items, but the Samsin A Course looked like such a good value that I went for the course instead. It’s the most affordable course at ₩25,000 per person, so the two of us could eat for ₩50,000.
Samsin A Course menu

First up was Sokcho snow crab soup. It was enough to gently whet our appetites before the course meal really began!

How should I put it.. it wasn’t quite maesaengi juk (seaweed porridge), but it had the texture of maesaengi soup. I really enjoyed it. The portion was bigger than I expected, so I just kept eating soup.. and cleared the bowl~
Next came the handmade dim sum sampler! You get two pieces per person, including xiaolongbao. You simply can’t leave dumplings out,, They’re on a completely different level from the frozen dumplings I eat at home~

They were warm~ and delicious, packed with juicy broth and meat. Every course includes this handmade dim sum sampler, and apparently the dumpling varieties become more diverse as you upgrade the course! They also had handmade fried dumplings, and I was sooo curious about those,, I even caught them on video~

How was the Tokyo tangsuyuk?
Tokyo tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork), the tangsuyuk version of Tokyo steak! I looked up a bunch of reviews before going to Samsin, and this tangsuyuk looked so delicious. Personally, I always order tangsuyuk at a Chinese restaurant, and I feel like it determines how good the meal is that day (?) That’s how important tangsuyuk is to me..

Samsin’s tangsuyuk passed!!! I enjoyed it so much. The sauce came separately, and when the staff said they would pour it on right away, I was like okay okay~ Even with the sauce poured over it, it didn’t get soggy and stayed delicious to the end.

More than anything, the meat was really substantial, so I was very satisfied! It’s Samsin’s signature tangsuyuk, finished with a honey-combo sauce!

Taean potato jajangmyeon and meat jjamppong
The meal dishes came out too. We chose one jajangmyeon and one jjamppong, then shared them nicely~

Not just ordinary jajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce), either—it was Taean potato jajangmyeon and meat jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup). Samsin has lots of distinctive dishes, and every one of them tempted me. They even had galbi-jjim jajangmyeon, or braised short rib jajangmyeon, which I was sooo curious about,,

Since these were the meal dishes in a course, the portions were a little smaller than à la carte orders, but even so, this was more than enough to leave us satisfied and full.

The meat jjamppong wasn’t very spicy either, so it was just right even for spice wimps like me~

Because we ordered the least expensive course, I wondered whether it might not be quite enough food (I was with someone for whom portion size is important^^). But each dish was a solid, classic Chinese dish, so we ended up eating very heartily.

Finishing with yuzu pudding
Above all, the dessert at the end was perfect for cleansing the palate. It was a very smooth pudding with a yuzu flavor.

Literally yuzu-flavored.. pudding. It wasn’t overly sweet, with just the right refreshing tang, so it was perfect as a finish!
