Gwanghwamun hair salon grace perm on long hair: Salon de Supullim

It had been a while since my last perm and my hair had grown out a lot, so I wanted a fall refresh. I searched for a place near Gwanghwamun and Chungjeongno that does long-hair grace perms well, and found great reviews for Designer Ha-eun. So I booked and visited Salon de Supullim for a grace perm — here's my honest review.

Where is Salon de Supullim? One minute from Seodaemun Station Exit 2

Salon de Supullim is a 1-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seodaemun Station. It's tucked behind Chungjeongno Post Office in Seoul, so even on my first visit it wasn't hard to find. It's also easy to reach from Gwanghwamun or Chungjeongno, so if you're looking for a hair salon near Seodaemun Station, this location is worth noting.

Inside Salon de Supullim: storefront, interior and waiting area

Salon de Supullim is on the 3rd floor of the building. Just follow the stairs up to the 3rd floor and you'll find it right away.

I booked in advance through Naver, and I was glad I did — even on a weekday there were quite a few customers, so booking ahead is a good idea if you want to cut down on waiting time.

The interior overall had a cozy yet upscale atmosphere.

Since perms involve waiting around after the solution is applied, I pay attention to the lounge space too — Salon de Supullim's was spacious and comfortable enough that I didn't mind staying a while.

On one side, they sell a variety of hair care products — if you're into hair care or looking for something to use at home, it might be worth asking about.

The shampoo room was clean and tidy, and the chairs were comfortable enough that I could relax during the shampoo.

Consultation and grace perm for long hair with designer Ha-eun

While I waited after checking in, they brought me an Americano and some light snacks.

First, they checked the condition of my hair. Since I'd dyed it before, the lower half was dry and damaged, and quite a bit of brown color remained where it had faded. The perm I'd gotten about a year earlier had mostly fallen out too, so my hair looked unkempt — I'd just been letting it grow without doing anything about it, and it clearly needed an overall reset.

I came in without a fixed style in mind, so I had a thorough conversation with Designer Ha-eun first. We looked at what would suit my face shape, talked through how I usually style my hair day-to-day, and worked out a direction together based on what I wanted and what bothered me.

Since I don't usually spend much time styling my hair, I asked for side volume and side bangs to be kept.

We decided to keep the length while focusing the cut on the damaged parts. Since the overall length would shorten a bit with the cut, we went with a style with more volume rather than thin, light curls.

At a hair salon, it helps to explain what's bothered you and what look you want in detail, rather than just showing a photo.

While I waited, they lent me a phone charger so I could pass the time comfortably, and the chairs were comfortable enough for a long sit. During the heat processing, Designer Ha-eun came by periodically to carefully check that it wasn't too hot.

Grace perm results: frizzy long hair turned into soft, defined curls

After the final shampoo, I loved the curl even before it was fully dried. My hair, which had looked frizzy overall, turned much calmer and more polished after the grace perm. Since the damaged parts were trimmed away too, my hair looked noticeably cleaner overall.

They cut off quite a bit of length too, so it really did feel like a proper fall refresh.

On the way out there's a big full-length mirror, with soft natural light coming in and nice lighting — great for a mirror shot after the appointment.

At the end, they gave me a separate treatment and explained how to dry and care for the curls at home. If you're someone like me who doesn't style much, it's worth asking about this stuff before you leave — it really helps with upkeep at home.
