Chicken pad thai without egg near Hapjeong Station: Saeng Augustine
In short
Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is a Thai restaurant in the basement of Mecenatpolis near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. Chicken pad thai, Thai rice noodle soup, and beef rice bowl were ordered, with the chicken pad thai standing out most since the chicken came battered and fried like tangsuyuk instead of the usual stir-fried style. Staff also accommodated a request to leave out the egg, making this a solid spot for two people to share several dishes.

I've been craving rice noodle soup so badly lately~ While looking around for a good spot, I ended up at Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch, a tasty Thai restaurant near Hapjeong Station.
It's inside Mecenatpolis, so it's easy to find from Hapjeong Station. You can also park in the Mecenatpolis basement, so it's convenient whether you're driving or taking public transit. Let me introduce it~~!!!

What's the atmosphere like?
The restaurant had that distinctive exotic vibe you get from Thai restaurants. The overall mood was relaxed, so it worked well for a date meal too. The hall was bigger than I expected, which made it look like a good spot for gatherings — seemed suitable for group visits with a reservation.

The three dishes we ordered
We ordered a total of three dishes: chicken pad thai, Thai rice noodle soup, and beef rice bowl.

Chicken pad thai — the chicken comes battered and fried
All three dishes were good, but my personal favorite was the chicken pad thai. It had that classic sweet-yet-savory pad thai flavor, and the chicken went well with it. They fried the chicken like tangsuyuk (Korean-style sweet and sour pork)? That felt pretty fresh~ Usually it's stir-fried together, but here it came with a crispy batter. I think that gave it a softer texture too!
I've been cutting back on eggs lately, so even though pad thai normally has egg in it, I asked them to leave it out~ Just so you know, it usually comes with egg!!

Thai rice noodle soup — fish balls and crunchy bean sprouts
There was quite a generous amount of noodles, plenty for two people to share. Ordering several dishes together was nice since we could each try a little of everything. When it comes to Thai food, pad thai is hard to skip. It was the dish I wanted most, so maybe that's why it tasted the best to me~~!
The Thai rice noodle soup was also great eating the broth and noodles together, and it worked fine as a light single meal. There was plenty of meat, the fish balls were soft, and the bean sprouts were crunchy, so you got a nice variety of textures!

Beef rice bowl — minus the fried egg
The beef rice bowl was hearty and filling, with rice and beef eaten together. The beef was bigger than I expected~ It was tender and still juicy. The vegetables were cooked just right with a crisp bite, which made everything taste even better!!
I thought this would work great as a stir-fry dish on its own, whether for a meal or as a drinking snack! I'd recommend it to anyone who loves beef!! The seasoning wasn't too strong, and I really enjoyed it.
The beef rice bowl usually comes topped with a fried egg too, but I asked them to leave it out~ So the visuals look a little different — just keep that in mind!

Sharing several dishes for two
The three dishes each had a slightly different flavor, so it was more fun to sample a variety than to stick with just one dish. This lineup worked well for a slow, chatty date meal for two.
Best of all, all three dishes came in generous portions, so it was easy for two of us to share bits of everything. Ordering several dishes to share was more fun than eating one dish alone. There are so many different menu items, so I think it'd be even better to go with a group and order a bunch of things haha. There were plenty of dishes that looked delicious, and it gave me new things I want to try.
If you're eating Thai food near Hapjeong Station
The staff were friendly and attentive, so the meal was comfortable the whole time. If you're looking for a date spot near Hapjeong Station or a place to eat inside Mecenatpolis, I think it's worth a visit. If you especially like pad thai, I'd personally recommend the chicken pad thai.

Hapjeong has so many good restaurants, but this time we went with Thai food and overall the meal was satisfying. If you're looking for Hapjeong Station restaurants and want something a bit different from usual, Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is worth trying for Thai food.
