Gangnam Korean BBQ restaurant with a self-serve bar: Daepae Market
In short
Daepae Market Gangnam Nonhyeon Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Nonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. We tried two servings each of 3 mm and 1.5 mm frozen pork belly, then grilled kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken fern, and mushrooms before finishing with fried rice. Verdict: the 1.5 mm pork belly and generous self-serve bar were standouts.

A lively Korean BBQ restaurant in the Yeongdong Market alley in Nonhyeon

The alley was quiet, but the restaurant was absolutely buzzing—and the smoking area out front was packed with people.
A great pork belly spot in Nonhyeon: the made-to-order Daepae Market Gangnam Nonhyeon Branch (대패마켙 강남논현점).

But!!! Why does a sliced-pork-belly restaurant have the phrase “made to order” in its name?
Daepae Market Nonhyeon Branch, a 24-hour Gangnam restaurant.

Why is it “made-to-order” sliced pork belly?
When you order pork belly, they slice it right then and there with a meat slicer and bring it straight over—such a fresh pork belly spot.

Since they slice fresh meat as soon as you order it, it would be hard for it not to taste good.... haha. Maybe that is why lots of celebrities visit, too.

What the ₩2,000-per-person self-serve bar includes

Along with the freshly sliced pork belly, this self-serve bar is the charm of Daepae Market Gangnam Nonhyeon Branch!!! It is loaded with all kinds of ssam (wrap leaves), mushrooms, and side dishes.

The table-order screen peeks out from behind the sesame oil. The self-serve bar has a mandatory ₩2,000 fee per person. But honestly, it is good enough that I would pay ₩5,000, not just ₩2,000. The side dishes are varied and tasty, but the pickled chili peppers were seriously delicious to me. There are mushrooms, too, so I hope you enjoy way more than ₩2,000 worth of food... pretty please~

We slice the meat fresh with a meat slicer as soon as you order.

Daepae Market Gangnam Nonhyeon Branch is a Nonhyeon-dong pork belly spot where they take out a whole slab from the aging refrigerator and run it straight through the meat slicer as soon as you order.

Which tastes better: 3 mm or 1.5 mm frozen pork belly?
When ordering pork belly on the table-order screen at Daepae Market Gangnam Nonhyeon Branch, you can choose the thickness, so pick whichever suits your taste.

The two of us ordered four servings of pork belly in total: two servings of 3 mm frozen pork belly and two servings of 1.5 mm. Four servings altogether, and the portion was quite generous.
Details you expect from a great restaurant. I really loved even Daepae Market’s grill... It is huge, so grilling meat is easy~ We piled on kimchi, bean sprouts, gosari (bracken fern), and mushrooms, too.

Personally, I thought the 1.5 mm one was tastier.
“Are you ready for meat?” We made a dipping oil with the pepper, salt, and sesame oil set out at the table.

Dip that pork belly deep into the oil sauce~~ and let’s make a wrap!!!

We thoroughly stir-fried the kimchi and bean sprouts in the meat fat, grilled the remaining meat, and got ready for fried rice.

Fried rice cooked in frozen pork belly fat is love.

Daepae Market Gangnam Nonhyeon Branch is a truly great pork belly restaurant near Nonhyeon Station: affordable, delicious, and with a generous self-serve bar. This is not a place you can visit only once!!!
