Laptop-friendly Yeonnam-dong café for a nut platter: Pip Espresso Bar

In short

Pip Espresso Bar is a large café in a converted house on Seongmisan-ro 29-gil in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. On a weekday afternoon, a solo visit by the floor-to-ceiling window brought the pecan-macadamia platter at 14,000 won and an Americano made with acidic beans at 5,500 won, and the crackers topped with cream cheese, brown cheese, nuts and honey were the best part. Pip Espresso Bar suits both laptop work and a chat between two or three people.

A big Yeonnam-dong café with genuinely good desserts: Pip Espresso Bar.

I love Yeonnam-dong and visit often, but most of the cafés there are small and cozy, which makes it hard to linger. So I was happy to find a large Yeonnam-dong café that's comfortable for laptop work or for chatting quietly with friends. : ) The coffee is great, the desserts are great, and the relaxed yet atmospheric vibe won me over completely.

Alley exterior of Pip Espresso Bar on a weekday afternoon

It was a crisp, autumn-ish weekday afternoon. This large Yeonnam-dong café sits a little off the main street, in an alley, which gave it a more relaxed feel.

Terrace seating in front of the café

I thought about sitting on the terrace, but the sun was a bit strong, so I went inside instead.

Spacious interior converted from a house

The inside was, as expected, spacious, and the layout — clearly built from a converted house — was interesting to explore.

Indoor seating with guests on a weekday afternoon

Even on a weekday afternoon, plenty of people were working on laptops or chatting quietly with friends.

Hall lit by floor-to-ceiling windows

The floor-to-ceiling windows let in a lot of light and gave the space a real sense of openness. The tables were also spaced comfortably apart, which I liked.

Best of all, every corner was decorated so nicely that it was fun just to look around.

Overall, the objects and lighting were arranged tastefully, without feeling cluttered.

I sat by the window, and just being there felt oddly healing.

Pip Espresso Bar menu and prices: how many espresso drinks?

For a large Yeonnam-dong café, the prices were reasonable! And true to its name, Pip Espresso Bar had a surprisingly wide range of espresso drinks — I was genuinely impressed.

But of course... I'm Korean, so the invincible iced Americano was my pick... hahahahaha

Table with the pecan-macadamia platter and Americano

There were so many delicious, intriguing menu items that I agonized over the choice, but I finally picked the pecan-macadamia platter — and my conclusion is, it was ridiculously good. I'm getting this again next time, no question.

Dessert and coffee placed by the window seat

For the Americano, I could choose between acidic or nutty beans, so I went with the acidic option. Heh.

Acidic-bean Americano, 5,500 won: how does it taste?

Iced Americano brewed with acidic beans

Honestly, an acidic-bean Americano can go really wrong if it's not made well, so I always hesitate to order it — but this large Yeonnam-dong café is clearly a serious coffee spot, because even the acidic Americano was delicious.

It had a nice nutty balance with a slightly fruity finish. I think even people who prefer nutty coffee could enjoy this one refreshingly.

Playing solo, eating solo, and doing just fine. Look at me go, hahahahaha.

Pecan-macadamia platter, 14,000 won: the star dessert

Full plating of the pecan-macadamia platter

Eek, and here it is — today's true star, drumroll please — the pecan-macadamia platter.

Platter with crackers and cream cheese

What is this?! At first I thought, biscuits plus cream cheese for ₩14,000...? But it turned out to be genuinely high-end dessert. Hahahahahahaha.

Close-up of a plain, nutty cracker

The crackers themselves were fairly plain with a nutty finish — I think they'd be tasty even on their own.

But then — cream cheese too? And brown cheese too?

And then really nutty, roasted nuts on top too? Honestly... isn't that combination basically cheating? Ugh... it's just so, so good.

A cracker piece topped with honey and cheese

The cream cheese wasn't too thick or heavy — it was moist with a light presence, which was the real genius move. The way it played with the honey and brown cheese was insane.

I want to eat it again. Sob.

Table with dessert and coffee together

It was a bit much for one person, so I think it'd be perfect for 2-3 people to share slowly while chatting.

Honestly, if you think of it as a dish for 2-3 people, the price isn't even that steep... If you're visiting this large Yeonnam-dong café, Pip Espresso Bar, definitely order the dessert too... order it twice...

Is Pip Espresso Bar worth a visit?

  • Spacious, comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere — great for working solo on a laptop or hanging out with friends
  • True to its name, the coffee is excellent, and with several upscale desserts on offer, it's a Yeonnam-dong dessert spot worth recommending

If you're looking for a large Yeonnam-dong café or Yeonnam-dong dessert, definitely give Pip Espresso Bar a visit. : )
