A neatly arranged Japanese spread. Min Cook Dasima, a Hwajeong restaurant.
Today I visited a sushi restaurant with my partner after a long while, haha🤗 We finished up work in Hwajeong and got so hungry, ugh. If you live in Hwajeong, think of Hwajeong sushi restaurants and you've probably heard of Min Cook Dasima at least once. It's been in business near Hwajeong Station for a long time, so it's a pretty familiar local spot for residents. I went to properly enjoy a full Japanese spread💜 Come along with me and see why this Hwajeong favorite is so popular — let's go~~😊
Where is Min Cook Dasima, and what are the hours and parking?
Min Cook Dasima is a Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building at 37 Hwasin-ro 260beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It's open 11:00–21:00 with a break time from 15:00–16:50, last order at 14:30 and 20:30, and closed on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month.

Min Cook Dasima is on the 2nd floor! Construction out front meant I couldn't get a shot of the building exterior, ugh. But standing on the street, you can see right in through the big glass windows🤗 It's also close to Hwajeong Station, so it's easy to reach by public transit, and if you're driving, you can use the Hwajeong E-mart parking lot for 1 hour free. Feels like a solid spot to pick if you're meeting someone around Hwajeong Station :)
The interior is really clean and tidy too. The window seats are clearly the popular choice. If you go further inside, there are counter seats that are comfortable for solo dining!😊
Open since 2001: a menu from sushi to Japanese pot rice
Min Cook Dasima is said to have been running since 2001, so it's been beloved in Hwajeong for quite a long time. It's not just a place that sells sushi — the menu ranges from sushi and sashimi to rice bowls, hotpot rice, pork cutlet, and udon, so the range of choices is pretty wide. That means even if one person loves sushi and the other isn't really into it, everyone can pick something to their taste👍

The world's gotten so convenient these days, haha. You can order by QR code. Let's take our time looking through the menu🩷

We take our time browsing before ordering :) My partner was so hungry and kept wanting to order everything... I'm always busy holding him back haha, since I only have so much room to eat and can't just eat a ton whenever ㅠㅠ But there really were so many things I wanted to eat, haha.

While waiting for our order, I take a quick look around the restaurant☺️

There's a sign showing Min Cook Dasima's history. This really tells you why it's a genuine local favorite! Running the place since 2001 — the owner is truly impressive!!
They bring out rice porridge as a starter first :) Of course you have to ease in with a light bit of carbs~~~😉 It's seasoned just right, so it's nice to eat on its own — nutty and savory :) Once that warm-up's done, the food starts coming out!

Sushi set special 30,000 won and grilled black cod set 19,500 won
What we ordered at Min Cook Dasima was the sushi set special for ₩30,000 and the grilled black cod set for ₩19,500, plus kake udon added for ₩3,500. The sushi set special comes with sashimi, assorted sushi 9pcs, salad, braised (or grilled) fish, Japanese-style egg custard or rolled egg, and tempura.

Wow, such a generous spread came out😍

Grilled black cod set — ₩19,500 / added kake udon +₩3,500. Grilled black cod + broth + rice (or Japanese-style hotpot rice) + cabbage salad + kimchi. The portion is really generous too. The black cod is so soft and chewy and delicious, right? I'm excited to eat this after so long, haha.
Chawanmushi to soothe the stomach😚 Of course it can't be anything but soft and delicious. It has this bouncy soft-tofu-like texture💜

How are the 9 pieces of sushi — tuna, salmon, and flounder?
The sushi set is so generous, ugh. The tuna sashimi!!! It just melts in your mouth. My beloved salmon, mallow❤️❤️❤️ I want more, hahaha.

The flounder was really chewier than I expected😍 It's just so delicious, ugh. I get why it's ranked among Hwajeong Station's top restaurants👍

Why you should add the soba noodles at Min Cook Dasima
I would've felt sorry if we hadn't ordered soba noodles. You have to add this on. Great portion for the price and refreshingly delicious☺️ My partner's excellent pick!

The braised eel with radish and eel harmonizes so well with that sweet-and-savory seasoning — such a soft rice-devouring dish! And the chewy sea bream head — of course, the head is always the best part of a fish❤️ Talk about a carb bomb after so long! Plump, tender flesh, delicious through and through~~~:)

Last but not least, the flower of Japanese cuisine... finishing with tempura🩷 Shishito pepper, shrimp, and sweet pumpkin tempura, I love it :) The shishito pepper tempura has a spicy kick that's a perfect palate cleanser~~~
Ta-daaaa~~~~!! Of course, we wiped it all out! Truly clean and delicious from start to finish, nothing to complain about👍 If I ever crave Japanese food, I really want to make a special trip here to eat. I'll definitely come back with my partner next time. Ate so, so well and got so full today.
