Hwajeong Station sushi restaurant with three rice principles: Min Cook
In short
Min Cook Dasima is a Japanese restaurant in Hwajeong, Goyang, a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Hwajeong Station, and was named a Hundred-Year Store and a Goyang tourism restaurant in 2024. The 25,000-won sushi set ordered at lunch brought two pieces of flounder and two of salmon along with futomaki, braised eel, chawanmushi, tempura, porridge, salad and soup, all built on Min Cook Dasima's 'three rice principles' of rice milled within 5 days and Jeju Samdasu water. The rice and fish worked well together, making Min Cook Dasima a good pick when you want to try several Japanese dishes in one sitting.

I was looking for somewhere clean and pleasant for lunch near Hwajeong Station, and ended up at Min Cook Dasima, a well-known restaurant near the station.

I'd heard it was also known as a Goyang tourism restaurant, so I was curious — and visiting in person, I was impressed not just by the food but by how much care went into the principles around rice and even how the whole place is run.
What kind of restaurant is Min Cook Dasima?
Min Cook Dasima is a Japanese restaurant that first opened in Eungam-dong in 2001 before relocating to Hwajeong-dong, Goyang in 2002. Looking at the history posted on the wall, it expanded to a second floor in 2011 and changed to its current name, Min Cook Dasima, in 2015.

The owner was certified as a World New Intellectual in 2018, received a Japanese cuisine master plaque from the Korea Culture and Arts Masters Association in 2021, and the restaurant was selected as a Hundred-Year Store in 2024.

It's also a Goyang tourism restaurant (No. 23-005) certified by the Goyang Tourism Association and the Korea Food Service Industry Association, and a registered tourism restaurant with the Gyeonggi-do Tourism Association — you can really feel it's a Japanese restaurant with a long history.
Inside Min Cook Dasima and how to order
Stepping inside Min Cook Dasima, the space was bigger and cleaner than I expected. Every table had an outlet, which was handy for charging my phone.

Each table has a QR code and a tablet, so you can check the menu yourself and order comfortably. I liked being able to sit down and order quickly right away.
Min Cook Dasima's 'three rice principles'
What caught my eye was the 'three rice principles' posted outside the restaurant.

They use rice milled within 5 days, Jeju Samdasu mineral water for cooking the rice, and store the rice in a dedicated rice cellar refrigerator.
The rice itself comes from the Ilsan Rice Farming Association, a company that has farmed in the Ilsan area for three generations — it was impressive to see local produce being used.

Another line that caught my attention: "We make sushi rice for only 100 servings a day." Since rice makes up such a big part of sushi, it was interesting to see them show exactly what rice they use and how they manage it.
What comes with the 25,000-won sushi set
What I ordered that day was the sushi set meal for 25,000 won.

Being a lunch special, it came out as a whole table full of different dishes — it felt generous right from the start.
The sushi included 2 pieces of flounder, shime saba (vinegar-cured mackerel), tuna, swordfish, 2 pieces of salmon, and soy-marinated shrimp.

Having 2 pieces each of flounder and salmon meant I could enjoy my favorites at a relaxed pace.
The sushi rice had a soft, chewy texture, and the harmony between the aged fish and the rice was outstanding. Sometimes you're left with rice while the fish is gone, but here — the rice and fish disappeared together.
The shime saba had a subtle vinegar tang, and the tuna was so soft it melted in my mouth.

The salmon had its signature rich, soft flavor, and the soy-marinated shrimp had a savory saltiness — together they let me enjoy a nice variety of sushi types.
From futomaki to chawanmushi: the full spread
The hefty futomaki (thick seaweed rice roll) that came with the sushi was packed with fillings, making for a satisfying bite. The menu variety was impressive too.

- Starting the meal with soft porridge,
- sweet and salty braised eel,
- a refreshing salad,
- and warm soup were all served together.
The chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) had the soft texture of egg with a subtle shrimp flavor from the dashi broth, almost like pudding. The tempura had crispy batter, giving a different texture to enjoy alongside the sushi.

The advantage of the sushi set is being able to enjoy a variety of Japanese dishes all at once, rather than just one thing.

Is Min Cook Dasima worth it for lunch near Hwajeong Station?
Overall, Min Cook Dasima was a great fit for when you want to enjoy a variety of Japanese dishes in one meal.
The sushi set came with sushi, futomaki, braised eel, chawanmushi, tempura, salad, porridge and soup — plenty to make for a hearty, satisfying meal.

Being close to Hwajeong Station, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good lunch spot near the station — whether for a date, eating alone, drinking alone, a family meal, a gathering, or anyone who wants to enjoy several dishes at once.
