Spacious, clean interior of Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch
Interior with widely spaced tables

'Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch' recently changed its name. It simply went from a 'seafood kalguksu shop capturing the season' to 'Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch,' so don't worry — it's the same place. It's located on the second floor above a gamjatang (pork bone soup) restaurant.

Walking in, you're greeted by an interior that feels warm and cozy yet neatly kept. 🤍 'Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch' has a spacious, comfortable dining area.

The tables are spaced generously apart, so it's genuinely great for chatting comfortably over a meal. Thanks to the friendly owner and relaxed atmosphere, it's also perfect for family outings, gatherings, or work dinners. There were a lot of regulars too. ✨

'Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch' has a self-serve bar right in front of the kitchen where you can help yourself to kimchi and sauces. There's also floor seating in addition to regular tables, so you can spread out.

Seafood kalguksu for 15,000 won: the clear broth, tasted

Ordered seafood kalguksu with a side of dumplings

At 'Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch' you can get seafood kalguksu, seafood sujebi (hand-torn dough soup), or clam kalguksu. I ordered the signature seafood kalguksu, packed with fresh seafood, plus a side order of hot dumplings. There are also set menus available.

Pot of clear-broth seafood kalguksu, full spread

At 'Jedam Kalguksu' you can choose between a clear, refreshing broth or a spicy, hot one, depending on your taste — I really liked having that option. I went with the clear broth. First, a pot arrives piled high with generous amounts of squid, webfoot octopus, shrimp, clams, and more assorted seafood. The visual alone, so fresh-looking, made me gasp out loud ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Seafood first, noodles later: how to eat it in order

With seafood kalguksu, the noodles don't come out right away — you boil and eat the fresh seafood first, then ask the staff for the noodles, which simmer for another 3–4 minutes.

They snip the squid and octopus into bite-sized pieces with scissors, and with the flame turned low, dipping each piece into chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) or wasabi bursts the ocean flavor right into your mouth. 🥹👍 There were really so many clams.

There was so much fresh seafood that picking and choosing what to eat was half the fun. Seriously, so much of it — hard to believe it's only ₩15,000. If this place were near my house, I'd want to come every day.

Hand-pulled noodles in 4 minutes, plus free broth refills

Once you've finished all the seafood at 'Jedam Kalguksu Hyangnam Branch,' the friendly owner adds the kalguksu noodles for you. The noodles are hand-pulled in-house.

When the broth starts to boil and looks like it might bubble over, the owner tops it up with more broth. You simmer it for about 4 more minutes — the noodles are chewy, clean-tasting, and slide right down. Paired with kimchi, it just keeps going in.

The noodle texture is soft and pillowy. With all that seafood in it, the broth is genuinely refreshing — not artificial at all, with a deep, rich seafood flavor that really opens everything up inside!!!!

Is Jedam Kalguksu worth it for lunch in Hyangnam?

The side dish of dumplings came out too. There are two kinds — kimchi dumplings and meat dumplings. Fresh out of the kitchen, they arrive steaming from the steamer basket, and even just visually, packed full of meat filling, they looked incredibly appetizing.

The dumpling skin was so thin and chewy... the moment you bite in, the juices spread all through your mouth — the texture was seriously wonderful. Moist and clean-tasting, the kind you keep reaching for.

After finishing all the seafood, you can drop the chewy hand-kneaded kalguksu noodles made in-house into the leftover broth and simmer them, and if you add the hot dumplings into the broth too, you get dumpling soup.

The owner was also incredibly friendly. 🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰 Maybe because this place has been steadily loved in the Hyangnam area for over 11 years, nothing was lacking — from the food to the service — and I left having eaten well and feeling completely satisfied the whole time. 💖
